The Eldoret Clean-up Campaign

Friends,
I must start by appreciating Sayari TV and Citizen TV Stations for giving the Peace Building Process along the Nandi Luo Border the kind of coverage they did. We need the Media to be part of us as we roll the gains towards a Comprehensive Peace Aggrement dubbed the Kibigori Chemase Peace Treaty which the people will sign at Kibigori on the 25th May 2012.

Secondly, I must thank all our Partners who made the events of last week be the success they were. We are thankful to people of Nandi and Luo along the common border, more so to Mzee Henry Rotich of the Nandi Gaa Kaburwo, Ex Chief Mzee Kipsutko Koech, Mzee Benjamin Chumo and Mzee Douglus Otiato- the Chairman of the District Peace Committee Muhoroni District for their efforts at finding an everlasting Peace Settlement.
Thirdly, we are very appreciative of the Government of Kenya, the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management and the Provincial Administration led by the 4 area DCs Muhoroni, Nandi East, Tinderet and Nandi South. We were impressed by your resolve to sort this Peace Business once and for all.

Lastly, we are appreciateive to our Team at The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign and the Centre for Community Dialogue and Development for the dedication they have put into this effort. We are moving the process to a conclusion and the Kibigori Chemase Peace Treaty will be signed by the people on the 25th May 2012 at Kibigori and it will be witnessed by senior leaders from Government as well as most of our Political Leaders.
We are inviting all Men and Women of Goodwill, People who believe in Peace to join us as we conclude this Peace Building process between the Luo and the Nandi.


Now, I want to sincerely thank the People of Eldoret and the Municipal Council of Eldoret for all joining in the Eldoret Clean-up Campaign at Kapsoya on the 21st April 2012. I was with the Team at Kapsoya and unfortunately, I had to leave for Nairobi immediately after the launch. Moving the Peace Building Process to an end

Several actors have come together and decided that the Peace Building Process along the Nandi and the Luo must now come to a stop.
In two massive meetings of the Luo at Kibigori and the Nandi at Chemase, the People of the Luo and the Nandi made it clear that they do not have such serious issues between them that would warrant the kind of influx of Peace Building Efforts in the Region.
The two meetings were attended by the entire Provincial Administration teams in Muhoroni and Nandi East Districts led by the two District Commissioners Mr. Solomon Abwaku and Ms Irene Ondeng', and they were facilitated by The National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management from the Office of the Minister for State for Internal Security and Provincial Administration.

The Luos had given us their resolutions earlier and this was read to them for their input. We had a very nice open air plenary with very vibrant inputs from the people. Their resolves were captured by DO Wanyonyi and a special team of Leaders from the 9 Locations was appointed to work with us, the DPC and the Provincial Administration in helping to harmonize the Resolutions.
The Meeting was attended by about 400 Luos from the entire Muhoroni Districts from Fort Tenan, Koru, Muhoroni, Ochoria, Achego, Songor, Kopere, Chemelil, Nyakungru to Kibigori.
We then headed to Chemase where we were joined by about the same number of Nandis from the entire Region. We were greatly honoured by the attendance of the Nandi Gaa Kaburwo led by Mzee Henry Rotich.

Mzee Rotich asked the two communities to live in Peace and work as Brothers and Sisters. He called on the Youth to respect the Elders and listen to their advice at all times. He sighted how the people have lived for so long as neighbours and said, no one will be leaving the area soon. We will continue to be neighbours for ever.

The two meetings were called to help address the small issues that seem to have been taken out of context for such a long time. They decided to work towards a final settlement which will be signed at Kibigori on the 25th May 2012 in a ceremony that will involve senior Government Officers, the Provincial Administration, the Elders from the two communities, the NGOs that have been working on Peace Building in the Region and the People.
The process was organized by The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign and the Centre for Community Dialogue and Development with the support from the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management from the Office of the Minister of State for Internal Security and Provincial Administration- Office of the President.
We were also joined by Mr. Obado from the Mennonite Church and Mr. Lel from the Rural Women Peace Link, two organizations that creating some positive change in the Region.
Today morning, we traveled to Maraba- Tinderet District where we made a Courtesy call on the area DC Mr. JN Narengo. Our discussions centred on the Peace Building issues and the need to now engage the people in positive acts of Development as we stop the Peace Building processes.

Earlier on Wednesday the 18th April 2012, we had made a courtesy call on Ms Irene Ondeng' the DC Nandi East at 10am.
We thereafter joined with the Anglican Church in a Peace Meeting at Kopere before paying a courtesy call on Mr. Solomon Abwaku- DC Muhoroni. We were also privileged to address a Peace Meeting for the Nandi and Luo Youth at Kopere in a meeting that was being facilitated by Mr. Lel from the Rural Women Peace Link.
We were impressed that the meeting was also attended by severall youths from Wareng Youth Initiative on Peace and Development. This was a clear show that the Youth of Kenya want Peace and they are doing what is within their power to ensure that Kenyans live in Peace and Harmony.
We will make a comprehensive report on this process and hand over to the National Coordinator at the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management.
All men and women of goodwill across Kenya and all people who love Peace in Kenya must help us stop this Peace Building Processes along the Nandi and the Luo Border line.
We want the people to also engage in other acts of Nation Building and Development and stop hoping form one Peace Meeting to another all across the week.

Peace Building in Nandi/Muhoroni

Friends,
Peace Building, being our 2nd Pillar at The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign is of key importance to us at the Clean-up Campaign and to Kenyans generally.
This coming Saturday- the 21st April 2012, we will join with the Residents of Eldoret, the Municipal Council of Eldoret, the Provincial Administration, Eldoret Green Town Initiative, the Centre for Community Dialogue and Development, and many more partners in the Eldoret Clean-up Campaign at Kapsoya Estate.
Before then, on the 19th April, we will be hosting 300 Elders, Women and Youth Leaders each from the Nandi and the Luo side along the common borders in Muhoroni and Nandi Districts for a meeting which will listen to the Resolutions that the two Teams have sent to us.
This will be a friendly meeting where we will all share in brotherhood as we seek a lasting solution to this perennial issue. We are happy to note that healing process is ongoing in some sections of Songor and Tinderet and we will also listen to the key architects of this peace process.
Again, Peace Building is a delicate process and we now want to bring all the Peace Efforts along this area to conclusion. We have had several interventions from many players and it is our considered opinion that the area residents need to be given a break to enable them live in peace and engage in positive acts of developments.
There have also been the issue of careless speeches whose authors care less about the ramification of their speeches. We are inviting all Peace Loving Kenyans not to listen to such careless speeches. When we are hurting, when we are burning our neighbours houses, when we kill each other and when we displace each other, such careless leaders are never there with us.
We never burn their houses.
We never kill their relatives or them.
We never displace them.
And they are always never hurt when we fight.
So, why must we kill and displace each other for people who have never lived in our midst? Time has come when we must confront the hard questions and deal with them in broad day light.
As we invite all the Peace Actors in the region to join us for these meetings at Kibigori and at Chemase on the 19th April 2012, we want to sincerely thank the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management, the DC Muhoroni and the DC Nandi East, the CCDD and all the Friends of KCDN for joining hands in this delicate process.
Lastly, we will be joining with the people of Kitale on the 28th as they launch the Monthly Clean-up Campaign in Kitale then.

Multi-Sectoral Peace Building process in Muhoroni

Peace Building efforts around the common Nandi Luo Border has taken some very aggressive form. There are many players who are keen on seeing an amicable settlement to the incessant border skirmishes.
To help drive this process forward, there was a Multi-Sectoral Peace Building Forum for active players around the Muhoroni and Nandi Area in Kisumu in an Initiative that was led by the Local Capacities for Peace International and the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management.

The meeting was attended by the DC Muhoroni Mr. Solomon Abwaku, Ms Milliscent Otieno of LCPI, Mr. Domnic Odipo- Peace Monitor Nyanza Region with NSCPBCM, Bishop Joseph Ochola of the Lutheran Church and several Peace actors from the Region.

The DC Muhoroni noted that there were several Peace Actors in the region and as such, there was need to coordinate their various interventions without necessarily curtailing their objectives as we avoid duplicating efforts.
Noting that peace was of paramount importance to development, he invited as many more players to come to the Region and offer material support in the healing process. He appreciated the Mennonite Church for the support they recently gave to 10 families who had been without shelter for some time now. They did give 12 Iron Sheets each to some 10 families to help start them up.
The good thing is, Mennonite Church gave the Iron Sheets, the People gave the Timber and the Government provided the labour and this was an effort that proved that we can achieve alot as a united team.
We at The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign are happy that we are part of this Transformative Agenda, and on the 19th April 2012, we will be meeting with almost 300 Elders, Women and Youth Leaders from the Luo at Kibigori Chief's Camp at 10am to go through the Resolutions that the Luo have passed in the on going Peace Process and adopt the same.
On the same date at 2pm, we will meet a similar number from the Nandi to go through their Resolutions and adopt the same. The two Teams are being led by the various Chairmen of the District Peace Committee Mzee Otiato and Mzee Chumo.
The two meetings will be attended by the DC Muhoroni and the DC Nandi East and all Peace Actors and People of Good will are invited to attend.

The Kitale Clean-up Campaign

The Kitale Clean-up Campaign is taking shape.
We had another round of meetings with the Regional Commissioner North Rift and the DC Trans Nzoia West in Kitale today. We then had a second round of meetings with His Worship the Mayor Municipal Council of Kitale, the former Mayor Cllr Werunga and the District Peace Committee Chairman Trans Nzoia West District.

In the said meetings, we agreed that we will host a Stakeholders Meeting on the 20th April 2012 at the DC's Boardroom with listed Stakeholders as from 10am in the morning.
We will map out the area for the Clean-up and agree on the logistics for the day.
The Clean-up Campaign will be hosted on the 28th April 2012.

Lastly, there will be a preliminary meeting of all the Peace Actors along the Muhoroni Nandi Border at Kisumu and all the Peace Actors in the Region have been invited.

The Kibigori Kopere Consultation Forums

As we celebrate Easter Season, we at The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign opted to pursue Peace Building across the Nandi Luo Border that has been very perennial. In the Company of Mr. David Busienei of the centre for Community Dialogue and Development, we set out from Eldoret in the morning of today and went for our first meeting with the Nandi and Luo Leaders at Kibigori.

Our next stop was at Achego where we found a group of Peace Builders under the Smart Citizens team led by Ms Carol Ruto and her team. In attendance were the DO Muhoroni and Mr. Otieno Aluoka. We addressed the meeting and appreciated the positive efforts the people themselves were putting in place to be Peace Builders and not War Lords.

Our last engagement was at Kopere Market where we met several elders in our continuing Peace Building Process.

The day was very hectic and we are happy that we have put in place a mechanism that will bring all Peace Builders working in the area to a common meeting at Kibigori Market on the 19th April 2012 when we will meet the Luo Teams at 10am and then meet the Nandi Teams at 2pm.

The said meetings will involve all the Elders, Women and Youth Leaders, Religious and Opinion Leaders, and Political and Provincial Administration. And we will read out the Common Resolutions to each Group after which, we will harmonize the resolutions and set a date for the Kibigori Chemase Peace Treaty.

This Treaty will involve all the People from the following areas;

1. Ochoria
2. Koguta
3. Nyangore
4. Chemase
5. Kibigori
6. Nyakungru
7. Kopere
8. Poto Poto
9. Owiro
10. Sitet
11. Songoh
12. Fort Tenan
13. Mumbwa
14. Tamu and 
15. Chemelil.

This means the Peace Treaty will not be signed on the 22nd April 2012 as we had initially anticipated.
What came out of all these meetings is the desire for Peace. The people want Peace, and they want to also have a sound sleep in the night as we all do across Kenya.
We are therefore inviting all the Peace Building Teams in the said Region to all join us for the said meetings at Kibigori Market on the 19th April 2012.

In partnership with the Municipal Council of Eldoret and Eldoret Green Town Initiative, we hosted the Eldoret Consultative Forum today at the Town Hall in Eldoret to continue the planning process for The Eldoret Clean-up Campaign scheduled for the 21st April 2012 at Kapsoya Estate.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of Environment at the Municipal Council of Eldoret Mr. Joseph Chelule. the Secretary General of the Centre for Community Dialogue and Development Mr. David Busienei and several leaders.
There after, we made a Courtesy Call on His Worship the Mayor Cllr before visiting Kapsoya Estate for a meeting with the area Chief. Lastly we paid a Courtesy Call on Mr. Solomon Mibey- Head- North Rift Conservancy at the Kenya Wildlife Services Eldoret.

The Month of March at KCDN

The Month of March was another good show of what Friends of KCDN can do.
We were able to help mobilize and sensitize many people and groups around the country by hosting several Consultative and Awareness Forums in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nairobi.
We were also able to host the Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaigns in Kongowea Market and at Kondele in Kisumu. We lastly hosted the World Clean up Day at Umoja Estate on the 24th April 2012.

We have a very heavy schedule in Kitale, Eldoret and Kibigori this Month, and I am very happy with the responses that we have received so far. It is a tough Campaign in Our Journey of Hope across Kenya, and it needs men and women made of steal, and we are happy that we are equal to the task at The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign.

The Kitale Clean-up Campaign

We were in Kitale today for the preliminary Courtesy Calls on our Partners in Kitale to help plan The Kitale Clean-up Campaign which will be hosted on the 28th April 2012.
Our first call was on Rev Nathan Chesang- the Chairman District Peace Committee Trans Nzoia West. We had a successful meeting with him and his Team Members- Eng B Singh Rao- the Secretary, Mr. Alfred Sambut Kiboi- the Treasurer, and Mr. Adam Hassan. We were also joined by other District Peace Committee Members.

I was with Mr. David K Busienei- the Secretary General Centre for Community Dialogue and Development and Mr. Jacob Ouma of KCDN.
Next we paid a Courtesy call on Mr. Wilson Wanyanga- the Regional Commissioner North Rift Region. He accepted our invitation to be our Guest of Honour during the Kitale Clean-up Campaign and he will work with our Team on the Ground to help make the day a success.

Lastly we made a Courtesy call on His Worship the Mayor of Kitale Cllr Charles O Bonyo at the Mayor's Paulour. He was joined by Cllr Francis Were- Chairman Public Health, Cllr Janet Nangabo- Chair Town Planning and Cllr J Wanyoike- Councilor Town CBD.

In all these calls, we were with Mr. Busienei and Rev Chesang who will lead the Kitale Consultative Forum on the 11th April 2012.
On behalf of The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign, I want to sincerely thank all our Partners in Kitale for their enthusiasm. I want to also sincerely thank the Friends of KCDN who have continued to be our Partners in this Campaign.
We are looking to a huge turnout in Kitale on the 28th April 2012 as we seek and invite more partnerships.
