I personally think that this was a good exercise and that what the groups are doing is commendable. I am surprised that someone was claiming this is a field that children use to play football? I ahve worked in Msa and have visited Kongowea market severally to buy produce....and i can attest that this part cleaned is part of the market.
I once again congratulate you for a work well done and do not dispair when people make negative comments but trudge on and make a difference. GOOD WORK TO COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENT.

Friends,
We are all set up for the Massive Clean-up Campaign across Kenya tomorrow.
We are inviting all to kindly join in cleaning their immediate neighbourhoods even as we converge at Kongowea Wholesale Market as our Focal Point for February. A Clean, Green and Litter Less Kenya is one agenda that we want to achieve as we celebrate our 50 Years of Independence.
We have missed on fighting poverty, disease, illiteracy, adequate shelter for all, water for all and all that. But a Clean, Green and Litter Less Kenya at 50 we can achieve as a People united in this Journey of Hope across Kenya.
We are happy with all the teams that have written to us enjoining in the Clean-up Campaign across Kenya, and as for the Kongowea Wholesale Market Clean-up Campaign, we want to appreciate the following Teams for joining in;

The Municipal Council of Mombasa
the Kongowea Wholesale Market Leaders and Traders
the First Step Initiative
the Coast Women in Development
the Humanist Resource Network

In our last posting we did say that NO ONE will be paid across Kenya to participate. This is a voluntary affair and only those who feel compelled are invited. Again we did say, and I want to repeat, the much talked about 20 Youths from Changamwe who wanted to get paid for their participation are not welcome.
They are free to join in the Clean-up Campaign, but they will NOT be paid for participating.
We are very happy with the many Kenyans who have since joined in the Clean-up Campaigns across Kenya in a voluntary basis. And like we have been saying, let us roll our sleeves and move to the trenches. A Clean Kenya Starts with Me!
We are also happy that at KCDN, we are driving a Campaign that is soon catching fire across the whole country. We are happy that at least we are doing something. We are just not talking and doing nothing. And we are are happy that we have been blessed with the capacity to sensitize and mobilize Kenyans into action. We are investing a great deal in this and we are happy Kenyans are responding with action.
We are looking forward to more groups joining us at Kongowea as from 10am tomorrow.
Note; this is a voluntary service and NO ONE will be paid for participating.
'Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change we seek'- President Barack Obama of the USA.
A Clean, Green and Litter Less Kenya at 50 is possible and achievable.

To all Friends of KCDN.
Our attention has been drawn to some unflattering comments attributed to one Mr. Elijah Kombo in response to our postings about the official launch of The 2nd Circle of The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign on the 22nd October 2011 at Huruma Sports Ground in Nairobi by Mr. Njoroge Ndirangu- the Provincial Commissioner in Nairobi.
The KCDN Family would want to dissociate ourselves from such reckless comments. It has taken us time and resources to build the goodwill that we are currently enjoying with many Friends of KCDN, the Government included and we would in no way want to create antagonisms amongst ourselves, yet, one pillar of our Campaign hinges on Peace Building.
It is with this in mind that we want to dissociate ourselves from those comments and take the earliest opportunity to apologize to all Friends of KCDN who might have been offended with Mr. Kombo’s remarks. We want to make it very clear that those were his personal comments and they have nothing to do with KCDN nor The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign.
We will continue to appreciate positive responses like those posted by Dr Matunda Nyanchama on the same date where he talked about the 3Rs. This does not mean that we are averse to criticism. We will respond to all criticisms that are well intentioned but from now on, we will NEVER respond to criticisms that add no value to the Clean-up Campaign or to those that are abusive.
Lastly, we want to sincerely appreciate the personal presence of Mr. Ndirangu to officially launch the 2nd Circle of this Campaign. We want to appreciate all the support and partnership from the Public Service Transformation Department, the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the City Council of Nairobi, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, the Brand Kenya Board, Akiba Uhaki Foundation, the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya, Phoenix Aviation Ltd, Nakumatt Holdings Ltd and all the Friends of KCDN. You are the people who have made us reach this far, and you are the people who will make this Campaign The Next Big Thing in Kenya this year.

The photo shows how side walks have been invaded to the extent that our children must walk on the roads instead of the pavements. A sure risk to them.

Dear Friends of KCDN,
11 days to go; Clean up
It is 11 days to our d-day and we are happy and appreciative of the support that we continue to get from Friends of KCDN.
This support is what powers our communication, mobilization, sensitization and administration, and, we are really appreciative that you have chosen to support and walk the talk with us.
We held a very active sensitization meeting with key leaders in Komarock yesterday at KCDN offices. We agreed on joint mobilization and we will host another meeting with the same team on 31st January 2010 at 4.00pm and this meeting will be chaired by our local Chief.
I was called in for a meeting with DO Embakasi, on behalf of the DC and besides stamping for us the mobilization letters, the Provincial Administration will mobilize Kazi Kwa Vijana Team to come out in large numbers for the clean-up exercise on 6th February 2010.
I also had a meeting with Matatu crews at Masimba and they have promised to come out in large numbers to support the clean-up exercise.
The Director of Environment at the City Council of Nairobi has confirmed to us that the Council will assign 2 garbage collection vehicles to work with us on the d-day.
We have corporates who are toying with the idea of joining us on the D-day and as soon as this is confirmed, we will communicate.
In the meantime, we appreciate those who have given us support for this exercise.We are also appreciative of the pledges we have received from several Friends of KCDN. We hope that we will achieve our desired targets.
Let’s roll our sleeves and move into the trenches on 6th February 2010.

Hi this sounds like a very noble cause . I would like to suggest however that a system is built into your outreach that ensures full accountability of monies recieved and spent. There are many ways to do this and I believe once this is available to all donors and sponsors, you will be able to recieve many more donations. An idea may be to have a website with a local mpesa donate tab that will allow folk to send via thier phones and be able to see their proceeds arrive in the organisations funds via a real time analytic web tool. (showing graphs on demographics of senders, amount in shillings etc)

With regards to Uniforms, I would like to share a model with you called EduShare which may be much more productive at raising the necessary uniforms, shoes sports gear etc cost effectively.

I totally agree that the kazi kwa vijana programme was ill thought and does not recognise or even respect the rights of Kenya's youth.

As you suggest, removing hyacinth and probably using it to make products for sale would be a more viable and (more)attractive solution for youth unemployment.

However, I believe the initiative is just a PR stunt for the government to pretend to be interested in the youth.

If the National Youth Policy has never been implemented, then how can we expect anything positive and sustainable to be done for Kenya's youth?
