Many groups turned up and I was most impressed by the Administration Police besides having the Band to lead the procession, also sent a contingent with a banner against corruption.
I must thanks the KACC fraternity for turning out in large numbers led by their Advisory Board members and Prof PLO Lumumba- the Director and CEO.
Transparency International who were of valuable help in hosting this event were led by their CEO Mr. Mbithi while Mugumo Communications Ltd were also well represented.
Prof Lumumba flagged off the walk which included students from Maseno and Moi Universities who came to Nairobi specifically for the walk. We had a good number of students from universities around Nairobi as well as from the Kenya
Polytechnic University, Bunge La Mwananchi, Association of Citizens against Corruption, The Youth Congress, The World Youth Parliament were in attendance led by their President Gerishom Okonda.
Time to Move From Talking to TaskingWe must thank the Hon Fred Gumo- Minister for Regional Development for making time to be with us today. He was a real motivation in the fight against corruption since he knows that it is the political class that has led us down the wrong path for the last 47 years. And he said as much.
We must thank Mr. Peter Leley- Deputy Provincial Commissioner Nairobi and Mr. Dan Masetu- Assistant Town Clerk at the City Council of Nairobi for being in time and for walking with us the full length. They showed commitment and we must all join in and help them achieve results in the joint fight against corruption.
The CCNSET Fraternity were of valuable support. Besides walking with us, Ms Christian Anthony and Ms Petronila Nafula took charge of the
arrangements at KICC; Pst Ben Mutuku led us in the opening prayers while Mr. Elijah Agevi was at his best as the MC for the day- I bet he does this part time. He was brilliant.
The Hon Fred Gumo- Minister for Regional Development giving his speech. We must salute them in encouragement.
Emergency Medical Services- a Division of the Red Cross was on standby and I am pleased that we had no major incidences. The only people whom they attended to were the ones who never walk any distances- but this number was small. Our appreciation to Nelly and the E-Plus team.
The Kashwesha Youth Groups, the Youth Congress and the United Artists against Corruption all captured our attention. We must intensify the fight.
More appreciation goes to Mr. Kinuthia Wamwangi and Mr. Elijah Agevi- members of the CCNSET team who came in very handy when the goings were getting tough. They were
a shoulder to lean on.
We cannot forget our Principals- Prof Lumumba- Director and CEO KACC, Mr. Kisia- Town Clerk CCN and Mr Ndirangu- PC Nairobi for their support and interest in the walk. I must make special mention of Prof Jane Onsongo whom I consulted with on a day to day basis and Dr Arbogast Akidiva who all put in great efforts.
The day was great and this marks the beginning of a new phase in the fight against corruption.
Lastly, I must thank KCDN Board and staff for giving us all the needed support in logistics and communications; Transparency International for their timely intervention and Mugumo Communications for their inputs to make this day possible.
We will be in singular communications with all the groups that attended the walk. But as for now, please accept out sincere thanks. You made it happen.
