Welcome to KCDN

This is KCDN, an Environmental Management, Economic Empowerment and Poverty Eradication Civil Society.

We welcome you to our site. Kindly feel free to share with us your thoughts. Ideas that add value will be appreciated. Ideas that want to make us improve our physical environment will be welcome. And more so, ideas that redirect us from the lost cause will be of immense value.

It is us who will improve the lot of our Environment, our Economy and make Kenya a Clean Country, where People join hands to work for our own Economic Emancipation and where Municipal Solid Waste Management is looked at as a resource, not as waste.

We need to set the standards in this region of the World and become the referral point in how a people can join hands and work for their own Economic Liberation, where waste can be used as raw material and become a source of employment for our people.

Our collective actions will surely make a difference. This is why in partnership with our Key Strategic Partners- The Public Service Transformation Department, the National Environment Management Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, other key Ministries, the Local Authorities in Kenya, the Provincial Administration, A Better World, Akiba Uhaki Foundation and other Partners, we are moving deliberately in sensitizing and mobilizing Kenyans to work towards A Clean Kenya where waste is separated at source.

And this is why we are inviting Kenyans to join with us in The Clean Kenya Campaign and be a Member of Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd

Welcome.

2nd Edition KCDN Child Support Initiative

1st October 2009

Hi,

It is that time of the year when we are coming together in support of our children, both orphan and vulnerable by mobilizing for them educational support. And the count has just begun.

Our First Edition of the KCDN Child Support last year on 5th December 2008 was a big success. We supported 250 children in need with books, stationery and uniforms and as a result, many children and their parents came to us. We listened to their stories, visited with them, talked with their teachers and we were moved. We made up our mind that we will mobilize support for the ones that looked most deserving. We came up with a list of 1950 such deserving cases and on 4th December 2009, we will give them what you shall have given to us.

As we did last year, we can once again come together and be of help to our children. This is what we need;

2nd Edition KCDN Child Support Initiative

Dear Friend of KCDN

On 4th December 2009, we will host the 2nd Edition of KCDN Child Support Initiative. We will be giving out books, stationery, uniforms, PE kits, shoes and socks to 1950 orphans and vulnerable children at Komarock Primary School in a function where we have invited several Guest to grace the occasion.

It costs parents about Kshs 12,000.00 each year to take their children through schooling. We have chosen to ease this burden by mobilizing Kshs 5,772.25 for each of the 1950 children. You may choose to support one or more children this time around and KCDN gives you that medium of choice.

In our short history, we have proved that we deliver on what we start. And we achieve this only through your support; so, let us make this last event in our calendar a gift for our children in need.

We are mobilizing support for this event which will be the last in our calendar of events for this year. Kindly visit our blogspot to view what we have done so far in support of our children; http://kcdnkomarockswatch.blogspot.com/

To this extent, we would want to invite you to become a Friend of KCDN and help us out. Your support to us will be a boost to our society, our environmental awareness campaign and it will also help the educational needs of one deserving child.

Quick Profile of our activities; Notes

At KCDN, we have been in the frontline in supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Last year, 2008, we supported 250 such children with educational materials such as books, stationery and uniforms. This year, we are supporting 1950 such Orphans and Vulnerable Children. We have hosted several successful events in support of this cause where we also engage the parents on issues of governance, peace, national healing, reconciliation, human rights, social justice and corruption; Kindly visit http://kcdnkomarockswatch.blogspot.com

On 5th September 2009, we mobilized the children, their parents, the youth and the residents of Komarock and we all cleaned the Komarock Canal and planted trees along the same Canal. We were ably supported by Total Kenya Ltd through the Eco Challenge, the City Council of Nairobi, the Provincial Administration and the Friends of KCDN.

On 13th June 2009, we hosted the 2nd Edition of the KCDN Peace Run/Walk at Montana/Calvary Grounds. It was flagged off by Mr. Patrick Nyanje, DO 1 Nairobi East District on behalf of the DC Nairobi East District Mr. PK Thuku. The procession was led by the Administration Police Band under the command of Insp. Mwangi. The main speaker was Bishop Dr Julius Mbagaya, the President of the Baptist Convention in Kenya. In attendance we had almost 7,000 people. The theme of this event was; Peace, National Healing and Reconciliation with a bias to the Kenyan Child.

On 17th April 2009, in partnership with Nestle Kenya Ltd, we gave our children exercise books, pencils, rulers and time tables. I34 children benefited directly from this support.

On 7th March 2009, in partnership with Friends of KCDN, we were able to again give more support to our children in a ceremony that was presided over by the Assistant Chief Komarock, Mrs. Elizabeth Omondi. On this day, we gave them unga, sanitary towels and some stationery. This was mainly funded by a Friend of KCDN from South Africa who requests to remain anonymous. 110 children benefited from this support.

On 23rd January 2009, with support from the staff of Barclays Bank Haile Sellassie Avenue Branch, led by their Branch Manager Ms Irene Wasike, KCDN received support of Kshs 59,000.00 in support of the KCDN Child Support Initiative. Ms Wasike also stepped in to support 35 girls in our programme on a monthly basis for 12 months with sanitary towels in her private capacity. She also undertook to pay Kshs 1000.00 on a monthly basis for one of the girls from Busara Primary School. All the 250 children benefited on this day.

On 11th December 2008, in partnership with Tetra Pak East Africa Ltd, we were able to give these children nutritional support. We gave them rice, unga, milk and cooking oil. All the 250 children benefited from this support.

On 5th December 2008, in partnership with Friends of KCDN and some Companies, we were able to give books, stationery and uniforms to 250 children in a ceremony that was presided over by Mr. Paul Mungai, an Assistant Director of Education in the Ministry of Education on behalf of the Director of Basic Education Mrs. Leah K. Rotich.

On 15th June 2008, in partnership with Friends of KCDN and some companies, we hosted the inaugural edition of the KCDN Peace Run. This was meant to preach the virtues of Peace, National Healing and Reconciliation. The country had just come from a severe internal conflict and we thought that at KCDN, we could do something to help.

In January and February 2008, we were able to rescue 32 families from areas of conflict. We helped them with clothes and used items which we were able to mobilize from Friends of KCDN.

In doing all these, we are keen in creating an enabling environment to achieve lasting peace, national healing and reconciliation by organizing interactive activities that defy tribe, gender, colour, creed or religion. During the planning processes, we engage Kenyans on the issues of governance, human rights, social justice and civic education on current affairs. We also aim at making the young Kenyans becoming responsible citizens on matters dealing with the environment and the need to be vigilant against corruption and its networks.
