Welcome to KCDN

This is KCDN, an Environmental Management, Economic Empowerment and Poverty Eradication Civil Society.

We welcome you to our site. Kindly feel free to share with us your thoughts. Ideas that add value will be appreciated. Ideas that want to make us improve our physical environment will be welcome. And more so, ideas that redirect us from the lost cause will be of immense value.

It is us who will improve the lot of our Environment, our Economy and make Kenya a Clean Country, where People join hands to work for our own Economic Emancipation and where Municipal Solid Waste Management is looked at as a resource, not as waste.

We need to set the standards in this region of the World and become the referral point in how a people can join hands and work for their own Economic Liberation, where waste can be used as raw material and become a source of employment for our people.

Our collective actions will surely make a difference. This is why in partnership with our Key Strategic Partners- The Public Service Transformation Department, the National Environment Management Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, other key Ministries, the Local Authorities in Kenya, the Provincial Administration, A Better World, Akiba Uhaki Foundation and other Partners, we are moving deliberately in sensitizing and mobilizing Kenyans to work towards A Clean Kenya where waste is separated at source.

And this is why we are inviting Kenyans to join with us in The Clean Kenya Campaign and be a Member of Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd

Welcome.

CHF International and Partners doing great

Dear Friends,
The CHF International, PeaceNet Kenya and Kituo Cha Sheria today invited a team of CSOs from Mathare, Kiambio, Kibera and Korokocho for last minute preparations for the General Elections in a series of meetings and trainings at the CHF International offices in Nairobi.
The first Team was that of Election Observers and they were taken through the Code of Conduct and Instructions on what their role will be come the 4th March 2013. We were ably taken through this by Gilbert from PeaceNet Kenya, Susan from Kituo Cha Sheria under the watchful presence of John of CHF International. Ms Selline Korir- the Director CHF International Kenya Tuna Uwezo was at hand to give the last remarks during the morning session.
I was invited to observe and share my thoughts with the CSO Leaders.
I was impressed with the state of preparedness from the Team and further, it was refreshing to hear that the TNA Candidate for Parliament in Mathare Constituency Mr. GM Wanjohi and the ODM Candidate for Parliament in Mathare Constituency Mr. Steve Kariuki and their campaign Teams met in Mathare Area 3C the other day at 6.00pm and they came down from their caravans, greeted each other and hugged.
That was a sure sign of maturity and it went a long way to calm the nerves of the residents of Mathare 3C. How I wished there was a Camera around to capture this great moment from our politicians.
 Nairobi 2013
As we engage in last minute Peace Building efforts, we are inviting Kenyans to remain firm. This is our Country and we can either make or break her. We must learn from the TNA and ODM Leaders in Mathare that this is only a contest and not a conflict.
We at The Clean Kenya Campaign and all our Partners who have been with us in the trenches and in the front line at Peace Building know the mood of Kenyans. Kenyans want a Clean and Peaceful General Elections.
We are all going to do our part as Kenyans and we are now calling on the IEBC to also stand tall and be counted. The last General Election was botched by sloppy and inept handling from the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya. This led to the team being disbanded in a most dis-graceful manner and they have for ever lived in shame.
The current Team led by the ever green Isaack Hassan and Maj James Oswago, must lift the spirit of Kenyans up. The lives and property of Kenyans lie on how you are going to handle the Elections of 4th March 2013. You may choose to stand tall and be counted as great Kenyans, or, you may fiddle and end up the way the defunct outfit went.
The die is cast and Kenya and the World is watching you.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Presidential Debates; Kenya moving in the right direction

Dear Friends,
Kenya has made great strides in the last couple of days.
We have hosted 2 Presidential Debates and we have hosted several Peace Initiatives culminating with the massive Peace Rally at Uhuru Park organized by Pst David Owuor on the 24th Feb 2013. Besides, many are in the trenches preaching Peace for the love of Kenya. And one thing is becoming very clear; Kenyans want a Clean and Peaceful Elections.
The one word that is gaining prominence is Peace. And we at The Clean Kenya Campaign are happy that we have been part of the Peace Campaign across Kenya. We have been invited for Talk Shows on TV and on the FM Stations and we have also been literally on the trenches. We are happy that the many Kenyans we talk with are happy that we are all Kenyans and come 4th March 2013, we will all vote as One Family under God.
Seated L-R; PC Nairobi Mr. Njoroge Ndirangu, IEBC Chair Mr. Isaack Hassan, Executive Director TCKC Mr. Odhiambo T Oketch. Standing L-R; Mr. Nahum Okwiya- Executive Director AYT, Commissioner Kule Galma, Commissioner Mohammed Alawi, Vice Chair IEBC Ms Mahiri Zaja, Deputy CEO IEBC Mr. Wilson Shollei, Deputy CEO IEBC Ms betty Nyabuto, CEO IEBC Major [Rtd] James Oswago when we launched a massive Voter Registration Campaign on the 13th Dec 2012.
We have also been excited by the Presidential Debates and I was impressed by the levels of discussions in yesterdays debate save for one incident when Ms Martha Karua denied the obvious. All Kenyans know that the root cause of the Post Elections Violence of 2008 was the ineptness of the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya. May the good Lord rest the soul of Mr. Samuel Kiviutu who passed on this morning. He was the Chairman of that body.
Ms Karua knows like all of us that the Commission was handpicked without due consultations as was by law required. Yet, she had the audacity to look at us straight in the eye and tell us that there were no political parties in Parliament to consult at that time.
We cannot afford to have such kind of leaders who lie to you as they look at you straight in the eye. It reduces the quality of an argument when you are arguing with a liar.
I was impressed once again by the maturity, composure, the calmness and confidence of the Rt Hon Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the debate. He once again proved to all and sundry that his time to be the CEO of Kenya is now and come 4th March 2013, he will offer the best for Kenya. He was firm and steady.
I was impressed by the Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta for summoning the courage to come and face the land question. And he did well. Despite disclosing that his family has 30,000 acres of land in Taveta, no one pinned him down with any impropriety on the emotive land question. Maybe his running mate has a case to answer with how he has behaved with land in the past. However, Hon Kenyatta showed some good promise and he is a potential Vision 2030 Presidential Candidate. His time has not yet arrived though. However, he needs to be in the next government, and if I were Raila, I would consider Mr. Kenyatta for a Cabinet Secretarial Post.
The other guys were equally good and in my modest thinking, we must all come out in large numbers on the 4th March 2013, and have this thing cleared with. Thereafter, it would be prudent for Ralia Amolo Odinga to invite all his competitors for a role in Nation Building as we truly start the work of reconciling Kenyans.
The best way would be to have all these guys play a role in the next Government.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

The die is cast; We must make it in Round 1

Dear Friends,
We are on the home stretch and come Monday the 4th March 2013, the 14.3m registered voters in Kenya will be invited to step forward and help make a clear choice. As we do this, we must know that our votes comes with clear consequences and for those who have not yet made up their minds, tonight's Presidential Debate may help.
Kenyans united in Peace as One Family under God
I was pleased watching our Presidential Candidates uniting in Peace at Uhuru Park yesterday and I have all the confidence that Kenyans are going to vote en masse and vote in Round 1 for a clear winner. As we do this, let us also pause for a moment and think.
Listening to our Presidential Candidates on the campaign trail, and looking at their Party Manifestos, I am tempted to think that Kenyans are being taken for a ride once more. The politicians are lying to us and we are dancing and shouting as they talk. We are not listening to what they are saying.
They are talking about issues they have failed to address even as they held offices that could make them address these issues. The leading contenders have been part of the top 5 political leaders in Kenya and they had an equal opportunity to do what they are saying they will now do for us. What held them back?
PhotoGarbage, garbage, garbage and yet, no politician is seeing this.
President Kibaki's partner for the last 5 Years has been Raila Amolo Odinga- the Prime Minister of Kenya. President Kibaki's Principal Assistant has been Steven Kalonzo Musyoka- the Vice President. The Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga's Principal Assistants have been Uhuru Kenyatta and Musalia Mudavadi- both Deputy Prime Ministers. They have been part of the out going government and they must share in the successes and failures of the same.
Kenya is dirty, very dirty, with garbage mounds competing for space with roads and every open space in our Towns, and no politician is talking about the opportunities that garbage and waste present for the Country as an Industry that can create massive employment opportunities for a large number of people. Not even the potential capacity of using the raw waste that we have as a source of power generation. Yet, the Presidential Candidates are talking about jobs and unemployment without giving us any details on how they will create the jobs they are talking about and how they want to tackle the menace that has been unemployment.
Just the other day, His Excellency the President was invited to launch the Syokimau Railway Line as a Vision 2030 Deliverable and two months down the line, Kenya Railways have quietly halved the fares to Syokimau and even reduced the rail frequency. And still, there are no people to board the Train. Now, when building this Railway Line, did the mandarins at Vision 2030 and at the Railways have any idea of what the Rail Line was going to serve? Where were the people the Rail Line was being built for?
I bet any simple and logical reasoning would have told you that an effective and economical Rail Service would link Kayole to Nairobi, or, Kangemi to Nairobi. Those are the places with the kind of human traffic that can save the people of Nairobi the man hours we waste on the roads every morning and evening. Syolimau has no human settlement. It is a jungle. And yet, the mandarins at Vision 2030 still went ahead to build a Rail Line to nowhere, and even had the audacity of inviting our President to launch this white elephant. And all the politicians kept quiet. Yet, they want the Presidency!
Again, recently, the President was invited to launch a County Road at a time the main artery of Public Transport in Kenya needs a major facelift. The Mombasa- Busia- Malaba Highway is an International Highway. In fact, it is part of the Great Northern Corridor and it needs to be built to better standards. The section of this road that stretches from Mau Summit via Kericho to Kisumu has been on a permanent mode of construction since 2002. And yet, the mandarins at Vision 2030 only saw it fit to build one County Road to 8 lanes standards and leave the main road that is of immense economic value to Kenya.
Again, no politician raised a voice. They all clapped as the red tapes were being cut. Now, let me ask, of what economic value to Kenya is Thika Road compared to the Mombasa- Busia- Malaba Highway?
In the recent past, many if not all middle level educational institutions have been upgraded to University Level. What happens to all the huge numbers of students who are unable to meet the cut-off points for University entry? All the Village Polytechnics and Teacher Training Colleges are now some constituent Colleges of some University. This simply means that when you drop out at class 8 or at Form 4, you are done with and you simply become some statistics for our Presidential Candidates. I have not heard any of them give us a clear picture of how they are going to address this situation, yet, we are busy clapping and shouting ourselves horse in the campaign trails.
The cost of fuel and electricity has become a known joke in Kenya. We are the only country in the world where costs of fuel and electricity is changed every month. This has very serious economic implications on the people and on the Industries. People cannot plan and Industries cannot plan. The end result is, people are crying and Industries are either relocating to more stable regions or down sizing on human capital. These are hard realities our Presidential Candidates are giving a wide berth. And they have the audacity to tell us about jobs creation, security and education.
I bet Kenyans are smarter and time has come for us to start holding our leaders to account. The times when we were being taken for granted is gone and I am happy the coming Elections are also going to end political impositions, where voters were saddled with favorite candidates against the will of the people.
The times have changed and the people who handle our Presidential Candidates must wake up from their self imposed Mr. Know-it-all.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Congrats Pst David Owuor

Dear Friends,
Today, in the presence of a multitude of people at Uhuru Park, Pst David Owuor- a revered Man of God, 6 Presidential Candidates led by the Rt Hon Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga pledged to accept the verdict of Kenyans on the 4th March and more so, pledged Peace.
The six Presidential Candidates were;
  1. Raila Amolo Odinga,
  2. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta,
  3. Peter Kenneth,
  4. Martha Karua,
  5. James Ole Kiyiapi, and the ever green,
  6. Mwalimu Abduba Dida.
It was a sight worth beholding as each Presidential Candidate took time to pledge for a Peaceful General Election, I was reminded of the various manifestos that I have taken time to look at.
I was intrigued by the absence of honesty on the part of our leaders. I have listened to all of them on their campaign trail as they traverse the Country soliciting for votes and I saw them lying between their teeth in the presence of the Man of God.
But being the optimist that I have all along been, I want to for only once believe that they committed themselves before the Man of God, the People of Kenya and before God that they will respect the results on the 4th March and invite all their supporters to respect the same.
On behalf of The Clean Kenya Campaign, and on behalf of all the Partners who have joined with us in The Human Peace Caravans that we have hosted across Kenya under the auspices of Kenyans for a Clean General Elections, I want to sincerely congratulate Pst David Owuor- a Man of God and his Team of Bishops who made Uhuru Park congregation happen for joining with us to preach for Peace in our Country.
It is worth noting that Kenyans for a Clean General Elections Campaign was launched on the 5th January 2013 and we have preached Peace within our limited resources to;
  1. Huruma- 5th Jan 2013
  2. Highrise in Kibera- 12th Jan 2013
  3. Kariobangi North- 16th Jan 2013
  4. Mathare- 19th Jan 2013
  5. Dagoreti- 26th Jan 2013
  6. Dandora- 2nd Feb 2013
  7. Makadara- 13th Feb 2013
  8. Kisumu- 16th Feb 2013
  9. Westlands 20th Feb 2013.
We have a series of events next week that will culminate with Prayers and Award Ceremonies at The Courtyard at KICC on the 3rd March 2013 at 10am.
I want to really appreciate all our Partners for the support they have given to us to make these Human Peace Caravans the success stories they have been and I want to really appreciate the Administration Police Band and the Traffic Police for leading all these processions in Our Journey of Hope across Kenya.
I want to sincerely appreciate The Provincial Administration, the IEBC, the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management and the Freedom House for their support and partnership. We will give the extents of these Partnerships on the 3rd March 2013 as we appreciate all our Partners and Team Members at KICC.
We are happy that our message has rung out loud and clear, and from the many reactions we are seeing across the Country, it was never in vein.
May the good Lord grant us the Grace and Love to know that we are all One Family under God and come 4th March 2013, we can all vote in Round 1 for our preferred Presidential Candidate with the full knowledge that Kenya is marwa.
It will be a mistake to drag this thing to Round 2. Let us make up our minds and save Kenya the ignominy of a gloomy future by making the right choices.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Madam DC Westlands Ms Flora Mworoa flagging off The Kangemi Waruku Human Peace Caravan in Westlands this morning
She invited the area residents to maintain peace during the elections and come 4th March 2013, wake up early to exercise their democratic rights by voting for leaders of their choices. She was emphatic that the Provincial Administration will remain impartial during this period and their desire is peace and tranquility during and after the elections.
The Westlands DPC Peace Banner
The same message was recurrent from all those who spoke at the different stop-overs all the way from Kangemi to the Salvation Army Junction, to Bottomline to Waruku. The Administration Police Band was led by Insp Solomon Gikunda while the Traffic Police Officers was led by DTO Kabete Chief Insp Wesley Kimeto. Madam DC was accompanied by the 3 DOs and all the Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs from Westlands District.
On behalf of The Clean Kenya Campaign, I want to sincerely salute The Administration Police Band and the Traffic Police for being part of The Kenyans for a Clean General Elections Campaign.
Members of the public listening to the Peace Message from Madam DC in Kangemi

I also want to salute the Westlands Team led by Madam DC for being part of this campaign today. They bought for us water and canned sodas for the Team and besides, she brought with her the mounted Truck that we used.

We are meeting for A Million Man Human Peace Caravan to be flagged off at Nyayo House at 8.00am tomorrow morning and we are inviting all the Candidates in Nairobi, all the DPC Members and Peace Actors in Nairobi are invited. We have done our damnest and it is time to let Kenyans decide what they want- peace or war.
Members of the public appreciating the message from Madam DC at Bottomline

We will hence host our last Human Peace Caravan on Saturday the 23rd Feb at Kamukunji before hosting our Prayer Session on the 3rd March 2013 at the Courtyard at KICC, courtesy of KICC and other Partners.
We will not host The 7 Days of Peace Activism as initially planned due to circumstances beyond our control. I bet we have done our bit. It was not easy organizing The Human Peace Caravans in Huruma, Highrise, Kariobangi North, Mathare, Dagoreti, Dandora, Makadara, Kisumu and today Westlands without any structured support.
Lastly, I will be hosted on Radio Mayienga on Friday the 22nd Feb between 7.30 and 8.00am. All those who can tune in are invited.

The Kangemi Waruku Human Peace Caravan

Dear Friends,
The Kangemi Waruku Human Peace Caravan will be flagged by the DC Westlands Ms Flora Mworoa at the Chief's Office Kitisuru at 8.00am tomorrow morning. The Chief's Office is immediately by the Kangemi Fly Over, and the Walk will be led by The Administration Police Band and the Traffic Police.
We had our last planning meeting today at the DC's Office and with us was Ms Petronila Nafula- the CEO Westlands Association. Through the Association, we have been able to receive a Land Rover mounted with a PA and Sound System, some water and sodas from the Westlands Jobless Foundation and Westlands Welfare Association. We are also looking at how we can pay the logistical issues for the Band.
We are also happy with our local mobilizing team led by Brian at Waruku, and the District Peace Committee Teams.
Then on Thursday the 21st Feb 2013, we will host A Million Man Human Peace Caravan in the CBD to be flagged off by the PC Nairobi at Nyayo House in the company of the Chair IEBC and we will walk to Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, Moi Avenue and end at Jevanjee Gardens. All the Nairobi Candidates are invited with their Friends and Supporters. We want to show the whole Country that we are indeed One Family and One People under God. All are welcome.
Lastly, The Kamukunji Human Peace Caravan will be flagged off by the DC Kamukunji Mr. George Natembeya at the Salvation Army off First Avenue Eastleigh on the 23rd Feb 2013 at 8.00am. In a meeting with the DPC Team Members, Youth and Women Leaders chaired by the DC today at his office, we agreed to aggressively mobilize for the event. And from the look of things, Kamukunji might be the biggest ever event in this series.
On behalf of The Clean Kenya Campaign, may I take this opportunity to thank all our Partners- Friends and Groups that have stepped in to make The Human Peace Caravans a success. We want to sincerely thank the Provincial Administration in Nairobi and Kisumu, and the IEBC Teams for their partnership. We also want to thank the KICC Management for allowing us the use of The Court Yard on the 3rd March 2013 at great discounts as part of their contribution to the Campaign.
We have faith more partners will come on board. And let us not campaign as if we are preparing for war. It is only an election and Kenya and Kenyans will remain Friends after 4th March 2013- quoting Mr. George Natembeya- DC Kamukunji.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan

Friends,
The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan was officially flagged off by Mr. Solomon Chazira- DO 1 Kisumu East on the 16th Feb 2013 at Bamato Grounds in Nyalenda. We then walked to Ka Chok for our 1st stop over. Our next stop over was at the Market- next to Oile Park just before the Round About where throngs of people from the Market and the Bus Park joined with us.

Mr. Vincent Shikoli, DO 1 Makadara Mr. Mayabi, SG CECAFA Mr. Nicholas Musonye and Odhiambo T Oketch immediately after The Mater Kayaba Viwandani Human Peace Caravan. Mr. Musonye was very supportive in hosting The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan with his support to The Administration Police Band
It was exciting seeing Mr. Audi Ogada rallying the people never to throw stones again. It was sad The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan was being hosted immediately after the Rt Hon Prime Minister Raila Odinga had just been stoned in Embu. We rallied the people never to retaliate when the other Presidential Candidates visit Nyanza and Kisumu in particular. And the leaders and people present accepted to marshal the residents not to ever throw stones in Kisumu.
We then matched to Kibuye and to Kondele Grounds.
Oto, Maurice Ogola, Chris Gaitho and the AP Band Members led by InspGabriel Karanu in Kisumu
Another Team lead by Bafope Development Trust and the Deliverance Church under Pst Mose Jasper had also matched to Kondele Grounds from Manyatta Area and they hosted a colourful Peace Concert at the Grounds.
Unfortunately, The Clean Kenya Campaign Team and The Administration Police Band had to leave immediately after the message from the DO.

We are appreciative to all our Team Members who made the event a success and we must appreciate the Royal Media for taking this Campaign to greater heights. To this extent, we want to appreciate;
  1. The National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management/UNDP
  2. The Provincial Administration
  3. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
  4. The Administration Police Band
  5. The Traffic Police- Kisumu
  6. Mkenya Daima and Mr. Otieno Ombok in particular
  7. Sita Rusha Mawe Tena Youth Group led by Mr. Boniface Ogutyu
  8. Maseno University City Campus
  9. Kondele Residents Development Forum led by Mr. Maurice Ogola
  10. Peace Seekers Ministry led by Bishop Anyienda
  11. Plan International led by Mr. Dennis Kongere
  12. Bamato Waste Management
  13. Kisumu County Clean-up Network
  14. District Peace Committee in Kisumu East
  15. EISA
  16. CMP
  17. Delivery Church led by Pst Mose Jasper
  18. Bafope Development Trust
  19. Kisumu County Boda Boda for Peace
  20. CSO Network
  21. Undugu Society
  22. and all the orther organizations whose names I might have missed.
We want to appreciate Ms Brigit Nyambura- a class 2 Pupil at Aga Khan Primary, and her younger sister,  for walking with us and reciting a very moving Peace Message to the Participants.
We are indeed One Family under God and let us all work for a Peaceful and Clean General Elections. We are heading for The Westlands Human PeaceCaravan on the 20th Feb and then A Million Man Human Peace Caravan with all the Nairobi Candidates on Thursday the 21st Feb.
The event will be flagged off at Nyayo House at 8.30am and we will all walk along Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, Moi Avenue and end at Jevanjee Gardens.
Oto welcoming Ms Brigit Nyambura to The Kondele Peace Concert in Kisumu
Members of the Public following the proceedings
We are inviting all the Nairobi Candidates to join with us in their Party Colours and supporters as a sure proof that we are all One Family under God.
Lastly, I want to sincerely appreciate our Partners in Kisumu for organizing a Peace Concert to coincide with The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan. Many thanks to Kondele Residents Development Forum, Bafope Development Trust, the Deliverance Church and all their Partners who helped to make the event a success.
