Clean ups taking root in Kenya

Dear Friends,
I am one happy man in Kenya today.
What we started in a small way is rapidly taking root and soon, it will be celebrated as a National Culture.
There will be a Clean-up Campaign tomorrow at Dandora in Nairobi and we are all invited to assemble at Dandora Primary School for the event that will kick off at 8.00am until 1.00pm.
In Kisumu, the Governor Mr. Jack Ranguma will once more lead the residents in a Clean-up on the 3rd August 2013. Kisumu has decided to host their Monthly Clean-ups every 1st Saturday of the Month while Nairobi has settled for the last Saturday of every Month. We have seen encouraging activities across our Counties that aim at working for a Clean Kenya.
We are happy we are part of this Great Transformation and we are in discussions that will harmonize all these great initiatives and turn them to one collective National effort.
To this extent, we are planning to host The 1st East African Waste Management Exto 2013 shortly and as soon as all the logistical arrangements are in place, we will make the necessary announcements on the same.

The times are real hard for many Kenyans, and now that the Banks and other Financial Institutions will be levying 10% on each and every financial transaction, we need to coalesce and pool resources together to spur our own economic activities. The cost of essential commodities keep rising as you walk to the shops, and we are told that VAT is not being levied on such essential commodities!
I do not want to believe it. What then makes the cost of Milk rise from Kshs 36.00 a packet, to Kshs 40.00 and now to Kshs 46.00? Why is the price of Unga on the rise on a daily basis?
Someone in Government must explain to Kenyans what is happening, because, there is no point of shouting that VAT will not be levied on essential commodities, yet, the prices of such essential commodities are on the rise on a daily basis.

This calls for action from Kenyans. The best way is to pool our resources together through the Co-operative Movement and more so join hands in creating Table Banking Units that will make access to credit affordable for us.
Essential commodities are on the rise on a daily basis, and now, the cost of finance is going to be way beyond the common man. We have seen the plight of Kenyans in our Journey of Hope across Kenya with The Clean Kenya Campaign-TCKC, and we decided to Register Kimisho Savings and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd as our first step towards economic emancipation as we join the fight on Poverty Eradication.
Our Membership is growing and we are committed to getting it right for our Members from day one.
We have discussed our agenda with various Government Officers and other Professionals. We have met with our Members across Kenya, and now that we are duly Registered, we will be hosting our 1st AGM as Kimisho Savings and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd  on the 6th August 2013 to elect our Management Committee as is by law established. From then on, we will be on a roll.
We will be reaching out to Friends and Partners who believe in what we are doing, so that we can jointly walk in this Journey of Hope across Kenya. We will never respond to any calls for proposals as has been our tradition, but we will welcome all willing Friends to walk and partner with us on our Three Pillars-

1. Environmental Management,
2. Economic Empowerment,
3. Poverty Eradication.

I think time has come when we must ask ourselves some heard question. When I have a garden and I want a bumper harvest, do I wait for a donor to come on board before I start tilling my land?
NO. Donor or no donor,
I will wake up every morning and go to my garden.
I will clear the bush in readiness of the planting season.
I will plant in time for the rains.
I will weed my crops and God willing, some will bear fruits and some will not.
Some seedlings will fall on hard rock and will be eaten by the birds,
Some will fall on thorns and will dry up.
But some will fall on moist land and will bear fruit.Anybody who wants to help me better join me in my farm.
But one thing I am sure about; I will not become creative to win donor support and confidence. The Kenyan in me tells me so, and so be it.

Dear Colleagues,

Following our Registration as Kimisho Savings and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd on the 4th July 2013 under Registration No. CS/15312 pursuant to The Co=operative Societies Act - Cap 490, Section 6[3], and following our invitation to Members to apply for positions in the Management Committee that fell vacant with the said Registration, it is my pleasure to make the following announcements;

On the 13th July 2013, I issued a Notice to all Members inviting all those who wanted to vie for any position in the Management Committee to submit to me their applications for the same by end of business on 22nd July 2013.

I am happy many people did apply, and as indicated in my earlier communication, the Management Committee Membership was only open to Registered Members of Kimisho Community Development Network- KCDN, and the following Members applied for the following positions;

Introductions

In Our Journey of Hope across Kenya, we were exposed to the many challenges Kenyans face on a daily basis. We held discussions with many people and we decided to do something.

What ailed Kenyans most was their economic plight. Essential commodities were increasingly becoming out of reach for many ordinary man and the cost of finance was beyond many.

We hence joined hands to Register Kimisho Community Development Network- KCDN as a vehicle through which we could coalesce and engage in acts of complementarity and subsidiarity. 

We also decided to Register Kimisho Savings and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd- KSSL as another vehicle through which our Members could save on a Monthly basis and get credit and loans three times their savings after six Months of Savings and Membership.

Such loans and credit will be governed by rules and regulations governing all Sacco Societies in Kenya as by law established.

However, our Members have agreed to a minimum Monthly Savings of Kshs 200.00 and a voluntary Monthly Contribution of Kshs 20.00 to help with management, logistics and administration. Our Registration and Membership Fee is Kshs 500.00 payable through the KCB Mpesa Pay Bill No 522522 AC 114 2400 913.

Our Products; 

1. Unit Table Banking Services- this is a product we are developing to enable our Members pool resources together and access credit at affordable interest rates. This is a product tailor made for our Members who are doing small business and need credit from time to time. We will be immediately committing funds to help us establish 60 such Units for our Membership.
2. Education Loan- This is a product we have developed for all our Members who are paying School Fee for their Children, Family Members or Friends. Members who wish to benefit from this Loan will deposit their Loan Application Forms with The Kimisho Education Loans Committee between November and December every Year for timely considerations.
3. Development Loans- This is a product we have developed for our Members who need loans for personal development. Our Members will need to liaise with their respective Account Managers on the same.
4. Emergency Loans- This is a product we have developed to assist our Members in time of emergencies. You only need to liaise with your Account Manager on the same.

All these loans are regulated and are all dependent on how much you have saved.
Kimisho Investment Club- KIC; This is a Club for our Members who want to invest. This will be an Exclusive Club and Members will also have several other benefits which our Technical Team is working on.

Regulations

Kimisho is a Family for us Members. We want to promote good neighbourliness, complementarity, subsidiarity and love amongst all our Members. We are inviting all our Members to remain faithful to each other, to our Monthly Contributions and Savings, and to be our agents in our mobilization and recruitment drive. Let us talk about Kimisho to our Family, Friends, Neighbours and to all, and above everything else, let us have The Staying Power.
We can make Kimisho be, so, let us do it.

The Kimisho Family is managed by a Team of Technocrats that will be elected by Members every three Years. The Management Team will be posted in our Blogspot and Websites and deposited with the office of the Commissioner of Co-operative Development.

Notice for our 1st Annual General Meeting
Following our Registration as a Sacco Society, notice is hereby given to all Registered Members of Kimisho Savings and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd, that our 1st Annual General Meeting will be hosted on the 6th August 2013 at the YMCA State House Road from 9.00am to 12 noon.
The only agenda for the AGM will be the election of our Management Committee as is by law required.
I want to appreciate all those who have applied to contest the various positions. Only the names of those who have made applications by close of business today will appear for nomination and consideration during the said AGM.

Kimisho is duly Registered

Dear Kimisho Members and Friends,
I am back in Kenya after an extensive visit to Tanzania and South Africa in the last couple of days. I am elated with the many messages of goodwill that I have also received following my brief hospitalization last week. I am well and now, I am back to the trenches.
Yesterday was a very important day in the life of Kimisho. We received our Certificate of Registration for Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd. We are now set and ready to roll.
An Officer at the Office of the Commissioner for Cooperatives hands over the Certificate of Registration for Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd to Oto yesterday the 9th July 2013 at the Offices of the Commissioner.
Yesterday, we also had a very fruitful Consultative Forum with the Deputy County Commissioner Makadara and his Team as we rolled out our mobilization process for the launch of Makadara Constituency Table Banking Services, an Initiative of Kimisho, the Poverty Eradication Commission, the County Administration and the People. We are rolling out in 34 Constituencies across Kenya and we are really appreciative of all the support we are receiving from our Members, Partners and Friends.

The Forum was attended by the Deputy County Commissioner, the Assistant County Commissioners, the area Chiefs and the Traders and Small Scale Business Vendors.
Now that KCDN and KSSL are duly Registered, our Management Team will be meeting to call for our 1st Annual General Meeting even as we officially launch our recruitment drive for Membership this Month.
KCDN and KSSL Membership is open to all and we will be pegged on Three Pillars namely;

1. Environmental Management- where our Members will be joining hands in The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaigns across Kenya.
2. Economic Empowerment- where our Members will be pooling resources together as we practice complementarity to each other.
3. Poverty Eradication- where our Members will work towards placing food on the Family Table as One Family under God.

All Members of Kimisho will be under firm instructions to show Love and Affection for each other and to respect the rights of all other Kenyans in life. Respect for all will be our driving force.

We will be seeking partnerships that can help drive our agenda from all. Ideas and comments that add value will be appreciated. But ideas and comments that are pedestrian will be ignored as we move to make Kimisho the next big thing in this Journey of Hope across Kenya.
Lastly, I was really impressed with the roads in Tanzania. From Namanga to Arusha to Makuyuni to Karatu, I never saw even a single pot-hole. Again, all their drainage systems are clean and you can see through the tunnels as far as the eye can see.
Can our Kenyan Brothers and Sisters tasked with making roads make a visit and see how roads and drainage systems are made- in Arusha?
It is a crying shame that we profess much knowledge yet, we cannot match what our Brothers and Sisters are achieving in Tanzania. We have a long way to go as long as we remain a Talking Nation.
We must move from Talking to Tasking as a People.

The Clean up Campaign at Huruma was a big flop

Dear Friends,
I want to start by appreciating the many residents of Huruma who turned up on Saturday the 29th June 2013 expecting to join with His Excellency the President for a Clean-up Campaign and left disappointed. We were equally disappointed at The Clean Kenya Campaign-TCKC.
From the outset, The Governor and his Team at the Department of Environment ignored us and we did not mind. We knew that Clean-ups were never the only domain for us and as such, we were willing to sit out and just join in like all the rest of the participants. We only joined the last planning session when NEMA invited us to their meeting with the Exhibitors. No officer from the Nairobi City County attended that meeting at NEMA Headquarters.
Then the anti-climax; the President ordered the hawkers back to the streets! Was he well briefed on the question of Waste and Waste Management? He said nothing on this, yet, this was the real thing.

It is a known fact that we have hosted several very successful Clean-up Campaigns across the whole Country. Our organizational acumen and professional engagement speaks for it self. We were hence taken aback when some Journeyman from Kisumu, posted on social media that I do not belong to, that he had authority and instructions from the office of the Governor of Nairobi to disassociate The Clean Kenya Campaign-TCKC from what the Governor and his Team were going to do at Huruma. 

We took it in our stride, because, we had not indicated in any space that we were co-hosting the event. The truth is now beginning to emerge and we are happy that we were not part of that mess.

We want to invite our investigative Journalists to dig into this circus where our President was taken. We would want to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I have said this before; shifting of waste from one place to another can NEVER be Waste Management. And boasting of a Phd without tangible results on the ground is a sham. Nairobi remains the dirtiest City in the Sun and it is a shame that officers detailed to keep our City Clean are more concerned with contracts for printing T-shirts, caps and procuring useless Cleaning Materials.

We have hosted several successful Clean-up Events across Kenya and we are happy that not a single Council has given us a penny for our efforts. And we have also NEVER asked for a single penny from any Council. Our efforts have been paid for by Friends of KCDN and TCKC and we salute all of them for this.

Let the world be told what exactly happened at Huruma and let all those who exposed our President to such poor organization and execution of such a noble Campaign be shown the door.
