The KCDN Calender of events
1] Greening the Nairobi East; A KCDN Initiative. We will host this on 5th September 2009 in Komarock and on this day, the pupils, the youth and their parents will plant 15,000 seedlings to start a process of greening the East of Nairobi.
We have noted with concern that in the East of Nairobi, we need to start a deliberate effort at planting trees. In so doing, we will be mobilizing the people on the need to keep safe their environment, take care of our surroundings, preach the virtues of Peace, National Healing and Reconciliation, and talk about corruption and good governance.
We will aim at interacting with the people from across the whole of Nairobi East in discussions that will add value to their day to day lives.
We will need all the support from Friends of KCDN to make this a success.
2] We will host the 2nd Edition of the KCDN Child Support Initiative on 4th December 2009 at Komarock Primary School. On this day, we will give books, stationery, uniforms and shoes to 1,950 orphans and vulnerable children from across Nairobi East District. To enable us have a successful day, we have been reaching out to Friends of KCDN for support. We know the resilience of Kenyans and we also know that Kenyans often feel sufficiently philanthropic, to quote the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon Kenneth Marende, to the need of fellow Kenyans.
In this case, it will be the guilt of our kids going to school with all the attendant comfort while our neighbours kid cannot afford even a second hand pair of shoes. These are the times when we are invited to be our brothers keeper; Love your neighbour as you love yourself.
We look forward to your continued support.
Many thanks and our blessings.

2nd Edition KCDN Peace Run
We had a very successful 2nd Edition of the KCDN Peace Run/Walk. The DC Mr. PK Thuku sent in the DO1 Mr. Patrick Nyanje to flag off the event.
The procession was led by the Administration Police Band and the Key Note Speech was delivered by Bishop Dr Julius Mbagaya, President of the Baptist Convention in Kenya.
We had close to 7000 people in attendance and the message of peace, national healing and reconciliation was apt.
We take on this opportunity to thank all those Friends of KCDN who came in handy to help us host this event. Together, we will move the masses.

President of Sahel Publishing at KCDN
Mr. Okello's visit was sentimental to staff at KCDN because, it is Mr. Okello and other friends who responded to our call for support last year in January when we were setting up.
It is instructive to note that Sam sent to us almost Kshs 72,000.00 to help us in various ways as we were setting up. We had to appreciate this very much.
On hand to receive Mr. Okello were Odhiambo T Oketch, the CEO at KCDN, Ms ELizabeth Mwende and Ms Ester Anyin Wekesa, our Programme Officers.
We discussed the upcoming KCDN Peace Run/Walk scheduled for 13th June 2009, the Upcoming Distribution of Guide Books for Literature to schools in Nyanza starting on 29th May 2009, and the big day for KCDN scheduled for 4th December 2009.
We were agreed that we must all join hands and do something. We must not wait for our leaders or the Government. We must compliment each other on this and in the process, make some change possible.
At KCDN, we invite support from all progressive forces in support of our children. At least, we are doing something positive.

Friends of KCDN
On Saturday 9th May 2009, courtesy of Ms Irene Wasike, we gave our 35 girls sanitary towels at KCDN.
This was the third time Ms Wasike was buying for this girls the same. She had promised that she will do this for 1 year in support of what we are doing at KCDN with Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
She also undertook to financially support the private tuition on one of the girls, Caroline Nyamari, a class 8 pupil at Busara Primary School by paying the tuition fee of Kshs 1000.00 every 2 months.
We are indebted to Ms Wasike and as KCDN, we register our appreciation for this support.
On 13th June 2009, we are hosting the 2nd Edition of the KCDN Peace Run and we want to appeal to all Friends of KCDN to come forward and help us make this day a success.
On this day, we will be marching in solidarity with most Kenyans on the need for Peace, National Healing and Reconciliation. We believe that this must start with the children.
We have invited Bishop [Dr] Julius Mbagaya, the President, Baptist Convention, as our Key Note Speaker on; Peace, National Healing and Reconciliation; one year after the National Accord.
The successes that KCDN registered last year with our inauguaral KCDN Child Support Initiative, has made several parents and their children flock in to our offices seeking for intervention. We now have in our books 1950 such vulnerable children who have visited us and it is our prayers that with your support, we can do something for all these children.
Kindly join us in sharing the little that we can in support of our children.
At KCDN, we are doing something.
Blessings.
