Welcome to KCDN

This is KCDN, an Environmental Management, Economic Empowerment and Poverty Eradication Civil Society.

We welcome you to our site. Kindly feel free to share with us your thoughts. Ideas that add value will be appreciated. Ideas that want to make us improve our physical environment will be welcome. And more so, ideas that redirect us from the lost cause will be of immense value.

It is us who will improve the lot of our Environment, our Economy and make Kenya a Clean Country, where People join hands to work for our own Economic Emancipation and where Municipal Solid Waste Management is looked at as a resource, not as waste.

We need to set the standards in this region of the World and become the referral point in how a people can join hands and work for their own Economic Liberation, where waste can be used as raw material and become a source of employment for our people.

Our collective actions will surely make a difference. This is why in partnership with our Key Strategic Partners- The Public Service Transformation Department, the National Environment Management Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, other key Ministries, the Local Authorities in Kenya, the Provincial Administration, A Better World, Akiba Uhaki Foundation and other Partners, we are moving deliberately in sensitizing and mobilizing Kenyans to work towards A Clean Kenya where waste is separated at source.

And this is why we are inviting Kenyans to join with us in The Clean Kenya Campaign and be a Member of Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd

Welcome.

Waste Management in South B

Dear Friends,
All roads are leading to The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan scheduled for the 16th Feb 2013.
The DC Kisumu East Mr. Willy Cheboi will flag off the event at Bamato Grounds in Nyalenda at 8.00am and the event will be led by The Administration Police Band and The Traffic Police.
In the meantime, just before the Mater Kayaba Viwandani Human Peace Caravan was flagged off at Mater Hospital, in the company of Prof Sam Moturi of The Technical University of Kenya and Chairman Institute of Packaging [Kenya], we visited some great work being done by a team of young Kenyans in South B.
I must state that The Institute of Packaging [Kenya] under Prof Moturi is doing something tremendous with waste and waste management and with the group in South B. They have embraced the process of separating waste and isolating paper and plastics for the end users.
Carton Boxes that have been sorted, waiting for transportation
This is something we need to invite Kenyans to do. To enable us manage the waste and garbage mounds that seem to overwhelm us, we must start inviting Kenyans to the Process of Separation of Waste at Source and in effect, creating employment opportunities for several people who are currently unemployed.
Proper Waste Management will see us open up waste value chains that starts with such groups as the ones in South B, where clean waste that has been separated at source is picked by a distinct group and transported to a known end user.
Prof Sam Moturi and Oto viewing the shredded papers at South B
We must stop transferring waste and garbage from one point to another. For the umpteenth time I want to drum this to our Directors of Environments in our various Councils. Transferring waste as we do from one point to Dandora and any other dumping site will NEVER solve our waste and garbage problems.
Again, it beats all logic for a Council like the City Council of Nairobi to invest Kshs 40 million every month on hiring 20 Garbage Collection Trucks. This money can be best invested in empowering groups that are doing something with waste in order to create demand for such waste lines.
Paper being weighed before transportation
Polythene can be used for several productions and all we need is to streamline the Environment Sector and bring in people who know that waste is wealth. There is simply no point of having people who know no value in waste as Environment Directors. Similarly, there is no point in employing people who only come to office to read newspapers and wait for an Environment Seminar or Conference as Waste Managers.
Such people should be removed from office and capable officers put in place; men and women who can work for a Clean Kenya.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

The Mater Kayaba Viwandani Human Peace Caravan

Dear Friends and Partners,
The Mater Kayaba Viwandani Human Peace Caravan was offically flagged off by the DC Makadara this morning and it was a huge success.
Mr. Sulleiman Chege- DC Makadara invited Kenyans to campaign peacefully, vote peacefully and live as One Family under God. This was the central messaage through the Caravan as we stopped at Mosque, DOs Office at Hazina, Kayaba Enterprise Road and at Viwandani Lunga Lunga where the Caravan ended.
We were joined by the IEBC Team, the Administration Police Band, the Traffic Police, the Kenya Police, the District Peace Committee Makadara, the Network for Youth Empowerment Kenya, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Red Cross, the Media and many Kenyans.
Later, in the company of DO 1 Mr. Mayabi, we met with Mr. Nicholas Musonye- the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Assembly who said that he is inviting a leading Coach from Africa to join us in A 1 Million People Peace Walk in Nairobi on the 21st Feb 2013. We will give details about this as the day nears.

Members of the public listening keenly
We must appreciate all our Partners for making todays event a success. I must make particular mention of our Chair Mr. Elijah Agevi and Ms Patriciah Alooh- a good Friend of TCKC. They were greatly of support to make today a success. Thank you for your support.
And we must appreciate the Kenya Police, the Administration Police Band and the Traffic Police Force for their support and commitment to working for a Peaceful Kenya. Mr. Sammy Koskey- the Deputy OCPD Makadara was invited by the DC in all our stops and his message was clear- the Police will be impartial, but they will be very firm in maintaining the rule of law.
We must also appreciate Mr. Nicholas Musonye for his understanding and enthusiasm and lastly, the entire Provincial Administration in Nairobi led by Mr Njoroge Ndirangu for their support and in particular, Mr. Suleiman Chege- DC Makadara- for his support, presence and commitment. We must also appreciate the DPC Team in Makadara led by Mr. John Odhiambo and the Regional Peace Monitor Mr. Michael Osir and the entire Team for their support and participation.
Lastly, we must appreciate our Planning Team led by Mr. Mayabi- the DO 1 Makadara for their support and participation. They simply made our day, and Mr. Mayabi was outstanding when he asked the participants to hold hands and ask each other which tribe they belonged. This was very loaded as we are all Kenyans.
We are now focused on the Kisumu Human Peace Caravan scheduled for the 16th Feb and from all indications, it will be a show stopper.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Hongera- Kenyan Presidential Candidates

Dear Friends,
We are set for The Mater Kayaba Human Peace Caravan tomorrow at Makadara. And we at The Clean Kenya Campaign would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our Presidential Candidates for the great show they had yesterday during The inaugural Presidential Debate in Kenya.
They proved to all of us that they can as well stay with the issues. Granted, some issues were tough, but in all, it was a good beginning. We need more of such sessions and even, a Debate of the Deputy Presidents would be great.
Our only disappointment was that no question was asked on garbage and waste management in Kenya, yet, garbage and waste is simply consuming us as we all helplessly watch- a sure sign of dirty leadership.
Mr. Ben McAlaka, Mr. Maurice Ogola and Mr. Peter Kochiel during the Consultative Meeting at the DCs Office in Kisumu
The moderators also did some good work, even though Linus Kaikai was hurrying the candidates unnecessarily. July came out much more focused and with some good grip and flow. Congratulations to both Linus and July. You did us proud.
We were in Kisumu for a Planning Session for The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan and from all indications, the people of Kisumu are set. The Kisumu Human Peace Caravan will be big. And we are happy with the enthusiastic support from all the Team Members.
Mr. Denis Kongore, Mr. Kevin Komolloh and Ms Ruth Helida Otieno during the Consultative Meeting at the DCs Office in Kisumu
Now, we will meet at Mater Hospital at 7.30am tomorrow morning for The Mater Kayaba Human Peace Caravan that will be flagged off by Mr. Suleiman Chege- DC Makadara at 8.00am. We will be led by The Administration Police Band and the Traffic Police into Kayaba and end the Caravan at Enterprise Road.
We will have 4 stop overs where the IEBC Team will stage a simulation exercise on the voting process.
We want to appreciate all our Partners in the Kenyans for a Clean General Elections Campaign for standing firm with us in this process. I know we have been pushing you through a punishing programme, but the good thing is, it is worth all the efforts.
Mr. Odhiambo T Oketch and Mr. Solomon Chazira- DO 1 Kisumu during the Meeting. Mr. Chazira chaired the meetiung.
It is also expensive to organize these programmes and as such, we are inviting all the support we can receive from Friends of TCKC.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

This is not acceptable

Friends,
As we approach the final bend to the General Elections of 4th March 2013, we must pause and reflect, and decide, what is Leadership? I want you to look at the enclosed photos and decide what you want your vote to do for you as from 4th March 2013. Can we afford to live like this;

All these photos were taken in Kangemi yesterday during our visit to help plan for The Waruku Kangemi Human Peace Caravan scheduled for the 20th Feb 2013.
In the meantime, we will start a simulation voting exercise in partnership with the IEBC on the 13th Feb 2013 during The Mater Kayaba Human Peace Caravan. We will be voting for 6 people and it is important we get it right.
The IEBC has been on the Television Stations to drive this, but we also want to reach the people with the same exercise.
Lastly, The Human Peace Caravans took a break today to help us re-energize and strategize for the weeks ahead. We are heading to Kisumu for a series of planning meetings for The Kisumu Kondele Human Peace Caravan scheduled for the 16th Feb 2013, and we must remain optimistic that Kenyans will get it right this time around. In the words of Mr. Cornelius Wamalwa- DC Dagoreti- you can only make a mistake once. A second time is never a mistake.
If the Electoral Commission got it grossly wrong in 2007, the current Team at The Electoral Commission cannot afford to get it wrong again. The blood of innocent Kenyans will haunt them to their graves if they dare mess our Elections.
In the same vein, Kenyans cannot afford to get it grossly wrong like we did in 2007. We must rise to the occasion and celebrate our Silver Jubilee in style- in celebration of elections perfectly conducted and won.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.
