Welcome to KCDN

This is KCDN, an Environmental Management, Economic Empowerment and Poverty Eradication Civil Society.

We welcome you to our site. Kindly feel free to share with us your thoughts. Ideas that add value will be appreciated. Ideas that want to make us improve our physical environment will be welcome. And more so, ideas that redirect us from the lost cause will be of immense value.

It is us who will improve the lot of our Environment, our Economy and make Kenya a Clean Country, where People join hands to work for our own Economic Emancipation and where Municipal Solid Waste Management is looked at as a resource, not as waste.

We need to set the standards in this region of the World and become the referral point in how a people can join hands and work for their own Economic Liberation, where waste can be used as raw material and become a source of employment for our people.

Our collective actions will surely make a difference. This is why in partnership with our Key Strategic Partners- The Public Service Transformation Department, the National Environment Management Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, other key Ministries, the Local Authorities in Kenya, the Provincial Administration, A Better World, Akiba Uhaki Foundation and other Partners, we are moving deliberately in sensitizing and mobilizing Kenyans to work towards A Clean Kenya where waste is separated at source.

And this is why we are inviting Kenyans to join with us in The Clean Kenya Campaign and be a Member of Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd

Welcome.

Where are the Alternative Leaders?

In a meeting with Mr. Nahum Okwiya, the Executive Director at Africa Youth Trust yesterday at their offices, the question of Alternative Leaders came up.

We were discussing the envisaged partnership between KCDN and AYT in promoting Good Governance and Good Leadership as part of The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign. We all know that the fight for Good Leadership and Governance gained momentum in the 1980s and we had men and women of substance who offered themselves to be the kind of leadership that we all wanted.
We had Raila Amolo Odinga leading from the front line. We had Paul Muite, Gitobu Imanyara, Martha Karua, Kiraitu Murungi, James Orengo, Anyang' Nyong'o, Maalim Mohamed and we had Kepta Ombati, Cyprian Nyamwamu, Maurice Odhiambo, Philo Ikonya, Anne Njogu, Oduor Ong'wen and of course Odhiambo T Oketch and others.
This team was able guided by the doyen of Kenyan politics Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Masinde Muliro, Martin Shikuku, Kenneth Matiba, Charles Rubia and Mwai Kibaki.
This team and many more Kenyans succeeded in fighting for the repeal of Section 2A of the Constitution and Kenya reverted to Multy-Party Democracy. We then went the full way and lost in the fisrt 2 Multy-Party elections due to our own silliness but ultimately, we were able to get Mzee Mwai Kibaki to the Presidency in 2002 December.
These were men and women who offered themselves to be the Alternative Leadership that Kenya so desperately needed at that time.
The team that we put in place have had their fair share of scandals. They immediately planned Anglo-Leasing, Triton, Maize and they ate unashamedly money meant for the Free Primary Education. And all Kenyans are doing is to make noise and make threats. No one or no Team is coming up to offer Kenya a leadership that is different from the one we are criticizing.

We are yet to see an emerging set of Alternative Leaders that Kenya can look up to to help liberate Kenya from the current crop of leaders; leaders who want to increase their salaries to enable them start paying taxes! We all know that corruption in this Government has been so refined that they eat without leaving any traces of evidence nowadays. They plan greater scandals without shame and they care less even if unga and petrol go beyond the reach of the common man.
Now we are asking;
  1. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to take over from our current rudderless clowns in parliament?
  2. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to take over from Francis Atwoli and the rudderless crop of Trade Unionists?
  3. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to take over from the dying Kenya National Union of Teachers?
  4. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to take over from our rudderless Sports Administrators?
  5. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to take over from our compromised Student Leadership?
  6. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to steer the affairs of the ever barking Civil Society?
  7. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to revamp the toothless Law Society of Kenya?
  8. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to reinforce the faith of the people on Christ?
  9. Where are the emerging crop of leaders to stand up for the rights of the Muslims?
  10. Where are the emerging crop of leaders prepared to be the people's Watchman?
  11. Where are they?
This is a scenario we want to see emerging. Leadership is not only vide the election process. Leadership emerges through such noble processes as we are doing through The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaigns and we would like to see emerging leadership join Kenyans in addressing such small issues as Cleaning our mindsets.
We want to invite leaders to join us in our campaigns and help make Kenya Clean.

If it is to be, it is up to me. A Clean  Kenya  Starts With me. A Peaceful Kenya is my Responsibility.

Speech by Odhiambo T Oketch to the ODM Youth 2012 Convention

25th June 2011
Ladies and gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to have been invited to this First Convention of the Orange Democratic Movement Youth 2012 to share my thoughts and aspirations for Kenya with your Conveners from the 47 Counties of Kenya.
I must start by making it clear that I am a Kenyan who believes in Kenya and Kenyans. I believe that, united as One People Under God, we can deliver for Kenya. I also want to make it very clear from the outset that I did accept the invitation from your very able Chairman Mr. Norman Magaya strictly on account that my presence will not restrict me to sharing my thoughts with any other Kenyans of different political persuasion.
We are One Family and our destiny as a country must be in our hands no matter what we believe in, no matter what faith we profess and which ever political party we belong to. And this is why we at KCDN have made very deliberate efforts to work with all Kenyans in our various activities.
I was delighted in my discussions with your Core Team and what impressed me more was your desire to do things differently as you pursue partisan political agenda. I was much more impressed with your interest in the Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign and our Child Support Programme. This is one area that has been very close to my heart and this is why, The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign is getting accepted in all the regions we are visiting.
We will work closely with you in our Clean-up Campaigns, just like we have been working with all Friends of KCDN. But when it comes to your political agenda, you are on your own. We will not participate because the Clean-up and the Child Support Initiatives are campaigns which we are running in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Kenya, the Local Authorities, the Provincial Administrations, the Corporates, the Institutions of Learning and Friends of KCDN from all political persuasions and beliefs.
This is a campaign which appreciates that we are all Kenyans and that Kenya is far much greater than any one of us. This is our Kenya, the Kenya we all want and at KCDN, we have developed a maxim; A Clean Kenya Starts With Me. As responsible citizens, we must invite ourselves to doing the right things;
1.     Disposing our waste responsibly,
2.     Building our houses responsibly- we must abide by the set standards and respect the by-laws.
3.     Driving our cars responsibly on our roads as we respect the rights of other road users and life,
4.     Paying our taxes just like all Kenyans are doing,
5.     Having access to affordable Health Care System by joining the National Hospital Insurance Fund,
6.     Helping in upholding the rights of all Kenyans as established in the Constitution,
7.     Voting responsibly and accepting defeat if need be,
8.     And loving our neighbours as we love ourselves.

As a political Lobby Group, you will face challenges in dealing with Kenyans. I want to assure you that you will not get anything for free. You will have to fight for your space, first, within your own party and secondly, within the Kenyan political arena. You will be called names and branded all sorts of things. But you must be ready to deal with that. I know you have the numbers and the will power. I also know that you are ready and decided.
You have the moment that can make you change the dynamics of politics in Kenya. For long, the middle class have always sat down to watch football as other Kenyans struggle to make Kenya better. I am happy that you are ready to change this and move with some of us to the trenches. I want to watch you in action to enable your Chairman join our team of growing Generals; men and women who have led from the front in the Clean-up Campaign.
You are the change we want in Kenya.
For so long and I want to be very clear on this, Kenya has been messed by bad politics. For 48 years, we have nothing to be proud of as Kenyans. We are talking of a Vision 2030 that is heading nowhere. The only thing we are seeing as country working for Vision 2030 is the Road Network to Thika and the envisaged Railway Network, again, to Thika. The rest of the Country has nothing.

We are talking about the fight against corruption yet, corruption is planned daily in Government by the people we are paying to manage the affairs of Kenya. Just imagine where Kenya would have been if our political leaders put efforts at National Development the same way they are putting efforts at stealing money meant for educating our kids?
Just imagine where Kenya would have been if our political leaders put in efforts at National Development the same way they are putting efforts at stealing maize that should feed Kenyans?
Just imagine where Kenya would have been if our political leaders put in efforts at National Development the same way they are putting efforts at stealing oil that should drive our Industries, vehicles and power our kitchens?
Just imagine where Kenya would have been if our political leaders put in efforts at National Development the same way they are putting efforts at planning Goldenberg?
Just imagine where Kenya would have been if our political leaders put in efforts at National Development the same way they are putting efforts at planning Anglo-Leasing?
You have some chance to address these ills as political players and this you must do without any fear or favour. Do not be afraid of attacking corruption and bad leadership even if it is coming from your own party, from your fellow tribes man, even from your family. You must seize the moment and help bring internal democracy to Kenya.
I am happy that Kenya is largely benefiting from the efforts of the Rt Hon Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and a few young Kenyans who dared the authorities at their time to help us get the freedoms that we are currently misusing. When the Young Turks dared the then regime, many Kenyans sat on the fence and even hit them back. They were arrested several times, some detained and now, we are all benefiting from their toil.
We can even afford to dare someone like the Rt Hon Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya to freedom contests, yet, when he was fighting for these freedoms, some of us were firmly serving the then regime. But that is politics, the domain you guys are joining.
I wish that you will also stand up and stand up for Kenya. We must get new crop of Kenyans who can stand up and feel the heat on behalf of us just like Raila Amolo Odinga has felt the heat for us. I know that some of you are ready for the heat. You are welcome to the trenches.
I also know that you have cowards amongst you. They are also welcome, because history has taught us that you can be a perpetual fence sitter and still end up well. The option is yours.
We are the change we need for Kenya. Some of us have decided to do things differently and I believe that you will also bring in some difference in how you conduct your affairs and relate with Kenyans. The time is now and you must seize the moment.
If we do the right things, we will be at peace with ourselves and we will leave a legacy just like your Party Leader is leaving for Kenyans. He is a man we must all respect. The man has tremendous will power and he has done Kenya proud. I am happy to note that he is the only leader who talks about Kenyans being One Family Under God besides His Excellency the President Mwai Kibaki.
He needs your support and our collective support as Kenyans. I know you can help propel his campaign to the next level. You have the numbers and you are all still in your prime, just like he was when he started fighting for the rights of Kenyans. Go out and do all that you can to help him.
Today, I have the privilege of calling you into action. I know you are the face of Kenya and the leaders upon whom our sorrow and mismanagement of the last 48 years lies.
Let us join hands as Kenyans and help clean our country under the auspices of The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign. I want to invite all of you to the trenches across all Kenya; http://www.kcdnkenya.org  http://kcdnkomarockswatch.blogspot.com
Let us join hands and be of support to the Mothers and their Children under the auspices of the Child Support Initiative.
Let us clean our mindsets of the cobwebs of tribalism, nepotism, hero worship, bad governance, corruption, and rampant stealing of state resources. Let us invite our leaders to love Kenya more than they love themselves.
Let us rally Kenyans to the dictates of Chapter 6 of our Constitution on Integrity and Leadership.
Let us invite Kenyans to go for Identity Cards, register as voters and help put in place a Captain who can lead us in crossing the Bridge; the Bridge of poverty, mismanagement, bad governance and all that.
Let us invite Kenyans to vote for a leadership that unites, inspires and visionary.
Let us invite Kenyans to register with the National Hospital Insurance Fund as an affordable Health Care Scheme of choice.
Let us invite Kenyans to all join in the fight against corruption.
Let us invite Kenyans to be active monitors of Devolved Funds. These are not personal donations to our Members of Parliament and Councilors. These are funds meant to develop Kenya.
Let us invite Kenyans to live the dream of our fore fathers; a Kenya where Justice is our Shield and Defender.
Let us invite Kenyans to live peacefully with each other, embrace the spirit of love and engage each other in harmony and humility.
Let us invite Kenyans to be the champions of Social Justice and Human Rights.
Let us invite Kenyans to be the Change Agents that we want.
You have the numbers and I want to believe, you have the energy.
God bless us, God bless the Captain and God bless Kenya.

Youth Employment Initiative of Nairobi

Friends,
In partnership with the Africa Youth Trust, KCDN will be the lead partners in Embakasi Constituency in facilitating improved youth access to a fair labour market under the flagship of the Youth Employment Initiative of Nairobi.

This is a programme Africa Youth Trust is implementing in partnership with Fagligt Internationalt Center for Uddannelse [FIC] and the City Council of Nairobi's One Stop Youth Information and Resource Centre and is sponsored by the Danish International Development Agency- DANIDA.
This programme has two specific objectives;
  1. Encourage and strengthen networks and cooperation between the youth organizations and relevant stakeholders at the labour market in the delivery of youth employment creation services and
  2. Increase knowledge and skills of the young people on employment possibilities/entrepreneurship and support the youth in entering the labour market through capacity building of youth, youth organizations and development of training and networking models.
We will be inviting all the young people in Embakasi for engagement on the same shortly, and on behalf of KCDN, I want to sincerely thank the Africa Youth Trust, the City Council of Nairobi, the FIC and Danida for showing this confidence in us.

In the meantime, all our plans for the Clean-up campaign in Kisii Town on Friday the 17th June have been finalized. All the Organizing Team Members will be meeting under the chairmanship of the DC Kisii Central tomorrow at 11.00am at the DCs Boardroom for final touches.
We are happy with the support we have received from Green Fingers International, the Municipal Council of Kisii, the County Council of Gusii, the Provincial Administration, the Students from the various Universities and Colleges, the Business Community and the people of Kisii in general.

Let us unite to make Kenya Clean as we preach peace, national cohesion and reconciliation, good governance, equity and as we all join in the fight against corruption.
Lastly, let us invite all Kenyans to join the National Hospital Insurance Fund. This is something we must all look forward to.
If it is to be, it is up to me. A Clean  Kenya  Starts With me. A Peaceful Kenya is my Responsibility.

Peace and blessings,

The 6th Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign

Dear Friends,
Following the publication of the KCDN Supplement on the Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign yesterday in The Standard on Sunday 5th June 2011, we have received inquiries of partnership and support in helping to launch the Clean-up Campaigns across several towns in Kenya.
Time for Consultations in Kisii
We want to encourage similar initiatives to be set in place by all People of Goodwill in partnerships with the Local Councils, the Provincial Administration and the Civil Society all across Kenya. We will always be available to lend our support.
We at KCDN want to sincerely thank all the Friends of KCDN who helped pay for the Supplement. We are indeed very grateful to Phoenix Aviation Ltd, Mr. Brigitte Frey of A Better World, the Municipal Council of Eldoret, Mugumo Communications Ltd and the Green Fingers International. Without you, this could not have happened.
We are also very grateful to Kenyans for the support we have continued to receive from you in running the KCDN Initiatives. The Monthly Nationwide Clean-up Campaign is firmly on track and on the 17th June 2011, we will be in Kisii Town where we will converge at the Municipal Market at 6.30am for a clean-up that will take us to Daraja Mbili.
Mr. Francis Otachi- Deputy Town Clerk Municipal Council of Kiss and our Team
The DC Kisii Central Mr. Soi, His Worship the Mayor Cllr Nyangeso and all the area MPs and Councilors will join members of the public and our volunteers in helping to make some difference on the date.
We were in Kisii for a Consultative meeting with the Stakeholders on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th and besides meeting the area DC Mr. Soi, we also met several partners from the Business Community. We set up a committee that will be Coordinated by Mr. Johnson Juma under the direction of Cllr Joyce Isaac and Cllr Henry Michira. We have all the confidence that the team will do well and surpass our Eldoret Team.
Secondly, the Friends of KNH Maternity Unit has one more Friend; the PLO Lumumba Foundation. We are appealing to all Men and Women of Goodwill to join us every Month as we make a visit to the Kenyatta National Hospital Maternity Unit. You will remember that on the 28th May, in partnership with Barclays Bank Haille Sellasie Avenue Staffers, we visited the mothers and their new born babies at Kenyatta. We will come up with a time frame immediately we finish the on going consultations between KCDN, KNH and Barclays Bank Haille Sellassie Avenue Branch. We want to have 100 Friends who will each give us Kshs 1,000.00 every month for this visit. Please join us and be of good service to fellow Kenyans.
We want to believe that through what we are doing, we are impacting on Kenyans positively as we engage them in discussions that add value to Kenya and our being Kenyans. It is indeed true that at KCDN, we have Moved From Talking to Tasking.
If it is to be, it is up to me. A Clean  Kenya  Starts With me. A Peaceful Kenya is my Responsibility.

Peace and blessings,
Odhiambo T Oketch
