Welcome to KCDN

This is KCDN, an Environmental Management, Economic Empowerment and Poverty Eradication Civil Society.

We welcome you to our site. Kindly feel free to share with us your thoughts. Ideas that add value will be appreciated. Ideas that want to make us improve our physical environment will be welcome. And more so, ideas that redirect us from the lost cause will be of immense value.

It is us who will improve the lot of our Environment, our Economy and make Kenya a Clean Country, where People join hands to work for our own Economic Emancipation and where Municipal Solid Waste Management is looked at as a resource, not as waste.

We need to set the standards in this region of the World and become the referral point in how a people can join hands and work for their own Economic Liberation, where waste can be used as raw material and become a source of employment for our people.

Our collective actions will surely make a difference. This is why in partnership with our Key Strategic Partners- The Public Service Transformation Department, the National Environment Management Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, other key Ministries, the Local Authorities in Kenya, the Provincial Administration, A Better World, Akiba Uhaki Foundation and other Partners, we are moving deliberately in sensitizing and mobilizing Kenyans to work towards A Clean Kenya where waste is separated at source.

And this is why we are inviting Kenyans to join with us in The Clean Kenya Campaign and be a Member of Kimisho Sacco Society Ltd

Welcome.

Voter Registration- Kenyans hitting the mark

Friends,

The Voter Registration is closing today and I was impressed seeing long queues across Nairobi as I was coming into Town.
At the International House Registration Centre in the Central Business District, many enthusiastic Kenyans were on queue even as it was drizzling, signs that the Registration of Voters is receiving the Final Blessings with light showers to grace and crown the exercise.
Large queues developing at International House City Hall Way at 2.34am 18th Dec 2012
We at The Clean Kenya Campaign are happy to have played our roll in helping to mobilize as many people across Kenya to Register as Voters, and we are happy with all those who made an issue out of the voter apathy. At least we are hitting the 15 Million Mark by close of business today, or more, if the queues are anything to go by.
We want to salute our gallant journalists and the FM Presenters, the TV Hosts and the Media Owners Association for their relentless efforts in mobilizing Kenyans to come out. It was very inspiring seeing Dr SK Macharia- the Media Mogul behind the Royal Media Services on the Trucks in the Trenches- calling Kenyans to come out and Register.
We must all salute Dr SK Macharia for this effort.
Large queues developing at International House City Hall Way at 2.34am 18th Dec 2012
After the close of Registration Exercise, the hard part begins; Voter Education. We at The Clean Kenya Campaign and our Partners will be rolling out a Massive Voter Education on the 5th January 2013 at Mathare in Starehe Constituency. This Forum will invite about 500 Political Leaders and Voters from the larger Starehe Constituency and we will be discussing on issues that unite us as a people, issues that will make us come out in large numbers to vote peacefully for our Leaders and accept whatever results that will come out.
We all want a Clean General Election and we must all work for it.
We must learn that voting in leaders must never make us fight. This is the message we will be sharing out with leaders across Kenya.
This will be our Calender of Events, and we are inviting greater Partnerships to help drive this Kura Kwa Furaha Campaign across Kenya;

1.    5th January 2013; Starehe Constituency,
2.    12th January 2013; Langata Constituency,
3.    16th January 2013; Kasarani Constituency,
4.    19th January 2013; Massive Clean-up cum Voter Education in Mombasa,
5.    26th January 2013; Dagoreti Constituency,
6.    2nd February 2013; Embakasi Constituency,
7.    9th February 2013; Westlands Constituency,
8.    13th February 2013; Makadara Constituency,
9.    16th February 2013; Massive Clean-up and Voter Education in Kisumu,
10.  23rd February 2013; Kamukunji Constituency, and
11.  2nd March 2013; A Consultative Forum at Charter Hall on the Way Forward
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya, a Clean Africa and a Clean General Election as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Stay Clean, Leave Green; MUSO

Friends,
The Moi University Students Organization- Nairobi Chapter today teamed up with employees of the City Council of Nairobi and The Clean Kenyan Campaign in cleaning the streets of Nairobi.
We also took advantage of the day to keep inviting as many Kenyans to Register as Voters to enable us hit the 18 Million Mark by Tuesday the 18th December 2012.
Part of The Clean-up Team along Kenyatta Avenue around 680 Hotel
In her closing remarks to the Students at Jevanjee Gardens after the Clean-ups, Dr Lucy Maru- the Deputy Director Moi University Nairobi Campus, urged the students to team up with The Clean Kenya Campaign, the Provincial Administration and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in mobilizing as many Kenyans to Register as Voters and ultimately to vote on the 4th March 2013.
The Clean-up Team from Moi University Nairobi Campus
She noted that we are the people who contribute to bad leadership when we fail to Register as Voters, and fail to vote in the right leaders.
She said that from now on, the Moi University will be a Key Partner in The Clean Kenya Campaign and as an Institution of Higher Learning, they will play their Academic Roles in shaping Policy and helping where they can. The Students were also addressed by a Representative from the City Council of Nairobi, the Assistant Dean of Students Ms Gathoni Ndung'u, the Chairman of the Moi University Students Organization Mr. Kuluo Sentero, and the Secretary General of MUSO Mr. Qaman.

I invited the Students to Team with us from January 2013 when we will be rolling out a massive Voter Education Drive across Kenya to help call out Kenyans to make informed choices as we elect our Political Leaders.
This is our Democratic Right as a Sovereign People and come 4th March 2013, we are going to help bring change to Kenya.
Those Political Leaders who thrive on hand-outs at the expense of substance better be on the run. Kenyans are going to vote you out.
Let us shame the devil of apathy for we are Kenyans.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya and a Clean Africa as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Massive turn out at Mukuru- Voter Registration

Friends,
Following our call for the Residents of Nairobi and Kenyans at large to come out and Register as Voters as we Clean our Country, there was a Massive Turn out at Mukuru Kwa Njenga this morning where the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chief Executive Officer Major James Oswago flagged off the Clean-up cum Voter Registration.
Massive Turn-out of Voters at Mukuru Kwa Njenga
This is an Initiative of The Africa Youth Trust under support from the Safe and Friendly Cities for all and was organized by The Clean Kenya Campaign in partnership with the IEBC, the Provincial Administration and the City Council of Nairobi. We must also appreciate the participation of Inuka Kenya and her Networks in Nairobi and the many Groups that came out to the Clean-ups cum Voter Registration.
Major Oswago, Mr. Okwiya and Ms Kiptugen launching the Clean-up cum Voter Registration at Mukuru
The event was attended by Mr. Nahum Okwiya- the Executive Director of Africa Youth Trust, Ms Rhoda Otieno- DO at the PCs Office Nairobi, Ms Bilhah Kiptugen- IEBC Nairobi County Coordinator, Ms Tabitha Mutemi- the PR and Communications Manager at the IEBC and Mr. Walter Mongare- aka Nyambane amongst other Guests.
There were challenges with the provision of working tools from the City Council of Nairobi and this made us cancel the Clean-up Exercise in Mathare. The event went on pretty well at Kibra- again without the participation of the Council. They however came in very late at Eastleigh.
In overall, Nairobi is on track to hitting her target of 1.7m Registered Voters and we are inviting all Kenyans who have not registered as voters to take advantage of the remaining 4 days. If Nairobi gets it right, the whole Country can also get it right. We only have tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to hit 18m plus. We can do it, so, let us do it. And as His Excellency the President  Hon Mwai Kibaki recently said, you must be a very useless Kenyan who is of age but refuses to register as a voter.
This is also captured by the Rt Hon Prime Minister Raila Odinga when he says that bad leaders are elected to office by good citizens who refuse to register as voters.
The Ward Manager Madam Faith, Oto,  Mr. Nyambane, Ms Kiptugen, Arnorld- the IEBC Embakasi South Coordinator and his Team
The ball is in your court, and the Registration Centres are open until Tuesday the 18th December 2012. Lastly, I want to appreciate the Media for their support in helping the IEBC to hit the 18m Target. Our Media Houses have been on a roll, and they are doing very commendable work towards mobilizing Kenyans to turn out in large numbers. We need your partnership as we start the process of Voter Education.
Let us shame the devil of apathy for we are Kenyans.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya and a Clean Africa as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Clean-up and Voter Registration in Nairobi; 14th December 2012

Friends,
We want to invite all the Residents of Nairobi and Kenyans at large who are of voting age to join with us in a Massive Clean-up Exercise in Nairobi on the 14th December 2012 across all Nairobi and also Register as Voters. Let us make it our Personal Responsibility to mobilize our Friends, Relatives and even our Neighbours to come out and Register as Voters.
This Exercise is being supported by the Africa Youth Trust and her partners; UNICEF, UN Women and UN Habitat and will be enjoined with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for Voter Registration. We have been in discussions with the IEBC at the highest levels and we are happy that the IEBC Nairobi Team and the National Office have come out strongly to join with us in this Massive Exercise.
As at the 8th December 2012, only 8.6 Million Kenyans of voting age had Registered as Voters across the Country against a target figure of 18 Million. Nairobi had Registered only 990,127 Voters and this is wanting.
We are happy that the City Council of Nairobi and the Provincial Administration in Nairobi will be joining with us in mobilizing for as many Residents in Nairobi to come out and Register as Voters on the 14th December 2012 as we also Clean our Neighbourhoods.
We will have four Focal Points namely;
  1. Eastleigh,
  2. Mathare,
  3. Kibera and
  4. Mukuru, with Mukuru being our Launching Pad for the day.
We are working with the IEBC Nairobi Coordinator and other Partners in planing for this and we will announce our Guest Lists tomorrow afternoon. But we have a team from the Africa Youth Trust, the Unicef, The UN Women, The UN Habitat, the Provincial Administration, the City Council of Nairobi, the IEBC and many more joining with us for this Massive Clean-up Exercise cum Voter Registration Campaign.
We are also happy that many Media Houses will help out with mobilization for this Exercise and as we write this, we have an invitation to talk about this at Citizen, Radio Umoja, and as usual, Kiss FM will be on top of issues.
We are reaching out to all the Media Houses and on Thursday the 13th December, 2012, there will be a Media Briefing in Partnership with the IEBC, the CCN, the Provincial Admministration and the Africa Youth Trust to call Kenyans out.
We can achieve the target of 18 Million Voters as set out by the IEBC, so, let us all come out across Kenya on the 14th December 2012 and hit this target.
Let us shame the devil of apathy for we are Kenyans.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya and a Clean Africa as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.

Start of the Training Programme on Waste Management

Friends,
We started the Training Programme on Waste Management today with a Class of 12 Students. We hope those who could not make it in time for the Programme will join with us on Friday at 9.00am.
This is something that has been so dear to our hearts and it was exciting- the enthusiasm, the commitment, and the interaction. I must appreciate this team that joined with us today, for in them, I saw passion. Despite sitting on make shift crates, there was that desire to learn.
I must also appreciate Ms Lorna Rutto and Mr. Charles Kalama, both of EcoPost, for having agreed to share their knowledge on Plastic Waste Conversion with us.
Our first Session runs until 14th December 2012 when we will close for Christmas Holidays. We will then resume in January 2013.
Oto and others in a Past Training supported by Freedom House
As we approach closing the Year, we want to appreciate all the support we have received from all our Partners. We are approaching a General Election and in line with our 2nd and 3rd Pillars- Peace Building and Good Governance, we want to invite Kenyans to engage each other.
Let us discuss our Country, what we want of her, where we want her to be and the kind of leadership we want for her. Let us be so candid but friendly on this. I know it is heard for many people to be truthful with their thought processes, let us be truthful as we can.
Kenya almost went to the dogs in January 2008 because of our silence, lies and indecisiveness. Let us vent out all our emotions as One People under God. Please feel free to discuss with your neighbours about the kind of leadership you want, such that by 4th March 2013, we shall have reconciled ourselves to the Truth.
This is the only way we will avoid a heavy back lash and tribal fighting. Let us start to appreciate that elections can be won and can be lost and let us be proud of that.
At The Clean Kenya Campaign, we will remain firm with The Issues- Stay with the Issues, and we will share our thought processes without fear or favour. For we believe in Kenya as our First Love. Zingine zote ni Punda.
We want to remain faithful to our 3 Pillars namely;
  1. Environmental Management,
  2. Peace Building, and
  3. Good Governance.

May the good Lord give us all the Grace to be Truthful but remain Friendly as we approach the New Year 2013.
Look at this Petition and if you are agreeable to its content, sign and help disseminate the same far and wide;http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/removing-the-director-of-environment-at-ccn-from-office.html
Let us Move From Talking to Tasking as we Stay with the Issues garbage.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya and a Clean Africa as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50 in Kenya.
