The City Council of Nairobi Stakeholders Evaluation Team-CCNSET, today in the morning made a courtesy call on the Editorial Director at the Nation Media Group Mr Joseph Odindo. Mr Odindo was joined by Mr. Julius Maina- the Managing Editor- Saturday Nation and Mr. Nick Wachira- the Managing Editor- The EastAfrican.
The team from CCNSET included Mr. Elijah Agevi, Pst Benedict Mutuku, Mr. John Kihiu, Mr. Steven Waweru, Mr. Fred Kariuli and was led by Mr. Odhiambo T Oketch. Ms Petronila Nafula joined us later.
Our discussions centred on the role of the residents of Nairobi in evaluating the performance of Government Officers in as much as Service Delivery is concerned. We are appreciative that the City Council of Nairobi has taken the lead role to involve stakeholders in evaluating their performance in line with the reforms that have been put in place by the Government. We are also appreciative that we have many officers who are equal to the task at the CCN.
But it is our responsibility to weed the chaff from the grain. We as the residents of Nairobi must put all Government Officers to task and demand efficient Service Delivery. This is what HE the President and the Rt Hon Prime Minister want of us and of the Government Officers. We must hence, in partnership with the media, play our part.
On behalf of the Stakeholders, I thanked the Nation Media Group for the spirited way in which they have stayed with the reforms agenda. I urged them to stay with the implementation process as they keep Kenyans informed of all that is taking place.
I also took the opportunity to thank Kenyans for voting peacefully for or against the Proposed Constitution. Now that Kenyans have spoken, the Government must move with speed to implement the wish of the people as they listen to the wishes of those who had a divergent opinion. After all, we are all Kenyans.
It was also our wish that the Stakeholders, being the consumers of services being rendered by the Government, must maintain a functional mandate to follow and monitor the implementation stages of the New Constitution are on track even as we demand service delivery from the Government. We can achieve this only through a structured partnership with the media.
Mr. Odindo on his part was thankful for having met our team. He reiterated the editorial policy of the Nation Media Group of remaining truthful to the unfolding events in our country. He said the NMG will remain on track with the reforms agenda, and they will always keep the country informed at all times.
We took the opportunity to share with him the Report of our Evaluation Exercise at the City Council of Nairobi. It is our wish that we stop complaining about Service Delivery from Government Agencies. Let us engage with them for the good of Nairobi.

We were warmly received by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Ms Mercy Gatobu on behalf of the PC. We were informed that the PC had accompanied His Excellency the President to Nyayo Stadium for the official opening of the Africa Athletic Championship.
Amongst the key issues that we discussed were;
- Performance of the Provincial Administration on the ground;
- Service Delivery to the residents of Nairobi;
- Mushrooming of illicit brews in Nairobi;
- Bars operation across Nairobi and how they affect the resients;
- Haphard police operations in Nairobi where the innocent people are arrested while the criminals go free;
- How residents can help in the fight against corruption;
- Informal sector where hawkers have become a menace to the cleanliness of Nairobi;
- Question of the youth and how best they can benefit from Kazi Kwa Vijina;
- Car Jackings and insecurity on our roads;
- And the need to involve the residents some more in resolving some of these issues.
This was a milestone in our lives and we are determined to take it to the next level. Working as a team, we will ensure that the residents, being the people who consume services that are rendered by the key government institutions, are enabled to make them be key partners in this process.
