Friends,
It was a double victory for The Clean Kenya Campaign yesterday. First, we were blessed with the arrival of Baby Joash, and later, The 2nd Consultative Forum on Waste Management was a huge success.
We will share the details of the Deliberations and Resolutions tomorrow after sharing the same with our Team Members.
On behalf of The Clean Kenya Campaign Team, I want to sincerely appreciate all those who made it to The Forum. Remember, every body came at his or her own cost and still, we had to refuse accepting more accreditation due to some logistical limitations. And the Teams that came in were simply the best. They were well prepared for The Forum and the Policy Makers who attended were very impressed.
We had wonderful Practical Steps Presentations from;
The Morning Session was officially opened by Dr Kepha Ombacho- the Chief Public Health Officer in the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and was also addressed by Mr. Benson Kibui- The Traffic Commandant. He was our Special Guest. And I was simply impressed with the Commandant. He came in at exactly 8.00am and left at 5.30pm when the Forum was officially closed by the Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development. Again, as we sang the National Anthem, the lead singer mixed the second and third stanzas, and being the Police Man that he is, he immediately pointed that out to the Delegates.
The Afternoon Session was officially opened by Hon Mutula Kilonzo- the Minister for Education. Our Chief Guest for the Forum was Hon Jamleck Kamau- Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development, and in closing the Forum, he appreciated the resilience of The Clean Kenya Campaign as he called on the Local Authorities within the Nairobi Metropolitan Region to take seriously the Constitutional requirements on a Clean and Healthy Environment. Saying that The Clean Kenya Campaign had set the tempo, he called on Kenyans to maintain this as we all work for a Clean Kenya as a deliverable Transformative Agenda in line with Vision 2030.
Mr. Peter Kibinda- Director- Environment and Policy at the Ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan development hands over a certificate of Participation to Mr. Nyaga from the Kongowea Wholesale Market.
He proposed a meeting of Stakeholders in the Waste Industry noting and appreciating that the Private Sector had brilliant ideas on how the menace of Waste and Garbage can be solved. He firmly reiterated that separating Municipal Solid Waste at Source is the way to go.
We are posting in our Blog and Website the entire speeches from Dr Ombacho, Hon Kilonzo and Hon Kamau.
The speech from Hon Kilonzo was read on his behalf by Mr. Philip Osere Manati- Assistant Director, Quality Assurance and Standards at the Ministry of Education, while the speech from Hon Kamau was read on his behalf by Mr. Peter Kibinda- Director Environment and Policy at his Ministry.
We want to appreciate the City Council of Nairobi for sending Mr. Mario Kainga- an Assistant Director of Environment. In his presentation, he told the Delegates that the Department of Environment and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency did a Master Plan on Solid Waste Management in 1988 and reviewed the same in 2010. Very impressive!
The Municipal Council of Mombasa was represented by Mr. M S Bilafif- the Director of Environment and Mr. Nyaga from Kongowea Wholesale Market.
The National Environment Management Authority Delegation to the Forum was led by Mr. Titus Simuyu the Provincial Director of Environment in Nairobi while the United Nations Environment Programme team was led by Mr. Moses Mbego.
We want to sincerely appreciate the logistical support we received from the following Teams to make The 2nd Consultative Forum on Waste Management a success;
