Friends,
Two things happened to me over he long weekend that we really exciting.
First, the Bill Gates Foundation is offering hope to the 2.5 billion people around the world who have no access to modern sanitation. They are developing loos that use microwave energy to transform human waste into electricity and capture urine and use the same for flushing. And still, another turns excrement into charcoal.
This is real innovation at work.
These facilities will operate without running water, electricity or a septic system. They will not discharge pollutants, will capture energy and other resources and operate at a cost of 5 cents a day.
This is something we will pursue and explore how best we can Partner with the Foundation to help drive the same in Kenya.
Secondly, I met Dr. Joseph O Ogutu, a Kenyan teaching and doing research in Germany. He has been on holidays in Kenya and during the said time, him and his team have been experimenting with the Solar Energy in making Ugali at the Masai Mara. And it has been working. Can you imagine Ugali being made without getting any Luhya Chef to do the manual labour of turning the mixture around!
As we move towards The 2nd Consultative Forum on Waste Management on the 28th August 2012 at the KICC.
Let us all work for a Clean Kenya as a Transformative Deliverable as we turn 50.
